Always Something There To Remind Me
Bacharach & David Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I walk along the city streets you used to walk along with me
And every step I take recalls how much in love we used to be

Oh, how can I forget you?
When there is always something there to remind me
Always something there to remind me
I was born to love you, and I will never be free
You'll always be a part of me, whoa oh whoa

When shadows fall, I passed a small cafe where we would dance at night
And I can't help recalling how it felt to kiss and hold you tight

Oh, how can I forget you?
When there is always something there to remind me
Always something there to remind me
I was born to love you, and I will never be free
You'll always be a part of me, whoa oh whoa

Whoa oh, whoa oh

If you should find you miss the sweet and tender love we used to share
Just come back to the places where we used to go, and I'll be there

Oh, how can I forget you?
When there is always something there to remind me
Always something there to remind me
I was born to love you, and I will never be free
You'll always be a part of me, whoa oh whoa

(Shalala dupdup shalala)
Never love another, baby (Shalala dupdup shalala)
I never will forget you, baby (Shalala dupdup shalala)
Ohh, you'll always be a part of me (Shalala dupdup shalala)
(Shalala dupdup shalala) Whoa
(Shalala dupdup shalala)

I'll never love another, baby
Never love another, baby

Overall Meaning

The song "Always Something There To Remind Me" by Bacharach & David is a classic love song with a bittersweet twist. The lyrics describe the singer walking down city streets that they used to walk along with their former lover. Every step they take brings back memories of how much in love they used to be with their significant other. They can't seem to forget their past love because there is always something that reminds them of it, whether it's passing by a cafe where they used to dance at night or going to places they used to go together. Even though they try, they know they will never be able to forget their former lover because they were born to love them, and they will always be a part of them.

The song's lyrics convey a sense of longing and heartache. The singer is reminiscing about the good times they shared with their lover, but they are also aware that they can never have those moments back again. The line "I was born to love you, and I will never be free" suggests that no matter how much time passes, the singer will always carry a torch for their former lover. The song ends with the phrase "I'll never love another, baby," which implies that the singer is still holding onto their past love and hasn't moved on.

Excellent song! The 1950's through the 1980's was the golden age of music for me.

Burt Bacharach is my ALL TIME favorite composer. His music is easy and smooth to the ear. One can never forget his style or fail to recognize the melody the moment you hear it. His compositions are a time capsule of the 1960's. Burt's music eased the soul during a turbulent time. A discovered a while back that Burt Bacharach and I share the same high school. Both of us are alumni of Forest Hills High School in Queens, New York. Mr. Bacharach was the Class of 1946, I myself the Class of 1975. THANK YOU Burt for enriching my life and many millions more with your music. You are second to none.

No kidding! I never would've known. Love his music and glad to hear he's from Queens. I'm from Elmhurst myself, only a couple train stops from Forest Hills. Cheers!
