In 1983 they sign with EMI Portugal and release a single produced by Tóli César Machado. The tracks included are "Identidade" and "Virgens-Impulsos". Afterwards Jorge Romão leaves the band and joins GNR (Portugal).
The band changes their name to Ban and releases the mini-LP "Alma Dorida". Included are four original songs without keyboards, only guitar, bass, voice and drums. The 2 songs that stood out were "Alma Dorida" and "Pantomima". The band's line-up at this point in time was João Loureiro (vocals), João Ferraz (guitar), Francisco Monteiro (bass guitar) and Paulo Faro (drums).
In October 1986 they release the maxi single "Santa", produced by Ricardo Camacho and considered by the singer João Loureiro their first "Pop" attempt. The record contains the songs "Santa", "Portugal" and "Ultramar".
The entry of Ana Deus (of 3 Tristes Tigres) into the band marks the completion of their Pop transformation. In April 1988 they release the album "Surrealizar". The biggest hits of this record are "Irreal Social", "Encontro Com Mr. Hyde" and "Num Filme Sempre Pop".
In 1989 they release the album "Música Concreta" that includes the songs "Excesso Aqui" and "Dias Atlânticos" amongst others. Rui Fernandes (Saxophone) and Ricardo Serrano (Keyboards) join the band.
In the beginning of 1991 "Mundo de Aventuras" is released . It includes the songs "Mal de Sol", "Displiciente" (both with Ana Deus also on vocals), "Rosa, Flor" and "Segredo". The musical composition of "Mundo de Aventuras" was put together from pieces of all the other songs in the record.
In February 1992 the compilation "Documento 83-86" is released. It includes all of the material in the early LP's.
The band breaks up due to stress, tiredness, and professional reasons.
In 1994 a Compilation/Best of is released called "Num Filme Sempre Pop". The first issue included a bonus CD with the maxi single versions.
And at about the same time the band does a final tour. The singer Emília replaces Ana Deus who at the time was very busy with Três Tristes Tigres and other side projects.

Segredo
Sei de um segredo de cantar
Sei de um segredo
Segredo
Sei de um segredo de cantar
Ontem dancei o yeah yeah (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Na festa de fantasia
Vi que uma sombra que tu tens
E o fascínio (vertigem)
E o fascínio (desejar)
E o fascínio (surpresa)
E o azul que vejo bem
Sei de um segredo
Segredo
Sei de um segredo de um olhar
Havia água no lago
E amor próprio no ar
Senti-me limpo e livre
E a perfeição desejar
E o fascínio (vertigem)
E o fascínio (desejar)
E o fascínio (surpresa)
E o azul que vejo bem
E uma canção é
Canção é
Sentir a vida e cantar
E uma canção é
Canção é
Sentir a vida e cantar
E uma canção é
Canção é
The song "Segredo" by Ban is about a secret that he knows about singing. He repeats the phrase "Sei de um segredo" throughout the song, which means "I know a secret." He then goes on to describe his experiences with music and how it makes him feel. He talks about feeling rebellious one day and then dancing at a party the next. He mentions seeing a shadow that someone has and feeling various emotions such as fascination, desire, and surprise. He also talks about experiencing a sense of freedom and perfection when he sings. The song ends with Ban stating that a song is about feeling alive and singing.
The lyrics of "Segredo" suggest that music is powerful and can make us feel a range of emotions. Ban seems to suggest that there is a certain secret to singing that he has discovered, but he doesn't explicitly state what that is. Instead, he describes his experiences with music and how it has affected him. The mention of a shadow that someone has could be interpreted as Ban noticing someone's flaws or insecurities, and how music can help to overcome them.
