Where Are You?

And I am a fool for beauty
Fooled by a feeling that because I have found you
I could have bound you too
You are too beautiful for one man alone
For one lucky fool to be with
When there are other men
Love does not stand sharing
Not if one cares
Have you been comparing
My every kiss with theirs
If, on the other hand, I'm faithful to you
It's not through a sense of duty
You are too beautiful
And I am a fool for beauty
Love does not stand sharing
Not if one cares
Have you been comparing
My every kiss with theirs
If, on the other hand, I'm faithful to you
It's not through a sense of duty
You are too beautiful
And I am a fool for beauty
Barbara Rosene's "You Are Too Beautiful" is a love song about the singer's rapture with their partner's beauty. From the first line, the singer admits to being "fooled" by their beloved's beauty, suggesting that they may be blinded by it. The "feeling" that they have found their love is so overwhelming that they believe they could have "bound" them to themselves, that being together is inevitable. The singer believes that their partner's beauty is too great to be for just one person, that others see and desire them too. And because of that, the singer fears that their partner may not be faithful as a result.
The singer's love is compared to the likes of a duty to their partner or an obligation to be faithful to them. They emphasize that their loyalty is not because it is expected of them, but because they are incapable of resisting their partner's beauty. They further declare that love "does not stand sharing," indicating their fervent belief that their partner should only have eyes for them. The song ends with a repetition of the chorus, "You are too beautiful, and I am a fool for beauty," underscoring the overwhelming power that the singer feels their partner's beauty holds over them.
Overall, "You Are Too Beautiful" expresses the idea that the beauty of the beloved has a powerful hold over the lover, creating a sense of duty and passionate devotion that transcends rational thought.
