Barbra Streisand has recorded more than 60 albums, almost all with Columbia Records. Her early works in the 1960s (her debut The Barbra Streisand Album which won two Grammy Awards in 1963, followed by The Second Barbra Streisand Album, The Third Album, My Name Is Barbra, etc.) are considered classic renditions of theater and nightclub standards, including her version of Happy Days Are Here Again. Beginning with My Name Is Barbra, her albums were often medley-filled keepsakes of her television specials.
Starting in 1969, Streisand tackled contemporary songwriters; like many talented singers of the day, she found herself a fish out of water in attempts to tackle rock, but her vocal talents prevailed and she gained newfound success with the pop and ballad-oriented Richard Perry-produced album Stoney End in 1971. The title track, written by Laura Nyro, was a big hit for Streisand.
Streisand's 1980 album, Guilty featured the songwriting, production and vocal talents of Barry Gibb and was the best-selling album of her recording career. During the 1970s, she was also highly prominent in the pop charts, with number-one records like The Way We Were, Evergreen, No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) (her duet with Donna Summer), and Woman In Love; some of these came from soundtracks of her films. She recently took part in supporting Haiti in singing "We are the World 25th anniversary.
When the 1970s ended, Streisand was named the most successful female singer in the U.S. - only Elvis Presley and The Beatles having sold more albums. [1]
[1] In 1982, New York Times music critic Stephen Holden wrote that Streisand was "the most influential mainstream American pop singer since Frank Sinatra."
Ive Dreamed of You
Barbra Streisand Lyrics

Always feeling you
Were there
And all my life
I have searched for you
Everywhere
I caught your smile
In the morning sun
On the breeze at night
I prayed one day
That your arms would hold me tight
And just when I
Thought love had passed me by
We met
That first look
In your eyes
I can't forget
You melted me
With your tender touch
I felt all fear and sorrow
Slip away
Now here we stand
Hand in hand
This blessed day
I promise you
As I give to you
My heart
That nothing, nothing in this world
Shall keep us apart
Come happily ever after be
The man I'll love
Until the very end
I've dreamed of you
My great love
And my best friend
For God must know
How I love you so
He's blessed us here today
As man and wife
Come dream with me
As I've dreamed of you
All my life
Come dream with me
As I have dreamed of you
All my life
The lyrics to Barbra Streisand's song "I've Dreamed of You" are a love letter to a long-sought-after soulmate who has finally been found. The lyrics begin with the singer expressing the notion that they have always felt that this person has been present in their life, even before they met. The singer confesses that they have been searching for this person their entire life, and caught glimpses of their smile in the morning sun and heard their whisper on the breeze at night. The singer dreamed of being held tightly by this person and longed for their touch to banish their fears and sorrows.
The lyrics then describe the moment when the singer finally meets this person, and how they were struck by the first look in their eyes. The singer is completely melted by this person's tender touch and feels all their fears and sorrows slip away. The two of them stand hand in hand on this blessed day, and the singer promises to give their heart to this person, and nothing in this world will separate them. The song ends with the singer acknowledging that God must have known how much they love this person, and that they have finally become man and wife. They invite this person to come dream with them, as they have dreamed of each other all their lives.
This song is an emotional tribute to the wondrous feeling of finding a long-sought-after soulmate. The lyrics are full of imagery and metaphors that describe the love and longing that the singer has felt for this person. The song is a testament to the fact that true love is worth seeking and waiting for. It conveys the idea that when the right person is found, all fears and sorrows will be banished, and true happiness will reign.
