Barbra Streisand has recorded more than 60 albums, almost all with Columbia Records. Her early works in the 1960s (her debut The Barbra Streisand Album which won two Grammy Awards in 1963, followed by The Second Barbra Streisand Album, The Third Album, My Name Is Barbra, etc.) are considered classic renditions of theater and nightclub standards, including her version of Happy Days Are Here Again. Beginning with My Name Is Barbra, her albums were often medley-filled keepsakes of her television specials.
Starting in 1969, Streisand tackled contemporary songwriters; like many talented singers of the day, she found herself a fish out of water in attempts to tackle rock, but her vocal talents prevailed and she gained newfound success with the pop and ballad-oriented Richard Perry-produced album Stoney End in 1971. The title track, written by Laura Nyro, was a big hit for Streisand.
Streisand's 1980 album, Guilty featured the songwriting, production and vocal talents of Barry Gibb and was the best-selling album of her recording career. During the 1970s, she was also highly prominent in the pop charts, with number-one records like The Way We Were, Evergreen, No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) (her duet with Donna Summer), and Woman In Love; some of these came from soundtracks of her films. She recently took part in supporting Haiti in singing "We are the World 25th anniversary.
When the 1970s ended, Streisand was named the most successful female singer in the U.S. - only Elvis Presley and The Beatles having sold more albums. [1]
[1] In 1982, New York Times music critic Stephen Holden wrote that Streisand was "the most influential mainstream American pop singer since Frank Sinatra."
Love In The Afternoon
Barbra Streisand Lyrics

Love in the afternoon
He walked right up and told me
That he liked my style
I noticed something different
In the way he smiled
And I know a place that's shady
Would you care to come
And lie with me awhile?"
And deep in my soul
I could feel a quiver
When he went down
And found that sweet old river
And he showed me the way
To find love in the afternoon
I knew he was a stranger
But I didn't care
We had something in common
But it wasn't clear
He said that life's a lover
When you love and like no other
Don't you think it's time
For you to get your share?
And deep in my soul
I could feel a quiver
When he went down
And found that sweet old river
And he showed me the way
To find love in the afternoon
I never could remember
Or recall his name
But I hang on to that memory
Just the same
I know it makes me crazy
It makes my head all hazy
To think about the way
He played that game
'Cause deep in my soul
I could feel a quiver
When he went down
And found that sweet old river
And he showed me the way
To find love in the afternoon
Yes, deep in my soul
I could feel a quiver
When he went down
And found that sweet old river
And he showed me the way to find
Showed me and showed me
And showed me the way
To find love in the afternoon
The song "Love in the Afternoon" by Barbra Streisand talks about a romantic encounter with a mysterious stranger. The stranger approaches the singer, complimenting her style and offering to take her to a shady place where they can lie together. Despite knowing that he is a stranger, the singer is drawn in by the stranger's infectious smile and the idea of finding "love in the afternoon." As they spend time together, the singer experiences a deep connection with the stranger, feeling a "quiver" deep in her soul when he touches her.
The singer acknowledges that she can't recall the stranger's name, but the memory of their encounter stays with her. She acknowledges that thinking about this experience makes her "crazy" and makes her head "all hazy," but she is unable to let go of the moment when the stranger "showed her the way" to find love in the afternoon. The song suggests that this experience has left a lasting impact on the singer, even if it was just a brief moment of connection.
