Barbra Streisand has recorded more than 60 albums, almost all with Columbia Records. Her early works in the 1960s (her debut The Barbra Streisand Album which won two Grammy Awards in 1963, followed by The Second Barbra Streisand Album, The Third Album, My Name Is Barbra, etc.) are considered classic renditions of theater and nightclub standards, including her version of Happy Days Are Here Again. Beginning with My Name Is Barbra, her albums were often medley-filled keepsakes of her television specials.
Starting in 1969, Streisand tackled contemporary songwriters; like many talented singers of the day, she found herself a fish out of water in attempts to tackle rock, but her vocal talents prevailed and she gained newfound success with the pop and ballad-oriented Richard Perry-produced album Stoney End in 1971. The title track, written by Laura Nyro, was a big hit for Streisand.
Streisand's 1980 album, Guilty featured the songwriting, production and vocal talents of Barry Gibb and was the best-selling album of her recording career. During the 1970s, she was also highly prominent in the pop charts, with number-one records like The Way We Were, Evergreen, No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) (her duet with Donna Summer), and Woman In Love; some of these came from soundtracks of her films. She recently took part in supporting Haiti in singing "We are the World 25th anniversary.
When the 1970s ended, Streisand was named the most successful female singer in the U.S. - only Elvis Presley and The Beatles having sold more albums. [1]
[1] In 1982, New York Times music critic Stephen Holden wrote that Streisand was "the most influential mainstream American pop singer since Frank Sinatra."
Why Let It Go

I saw my dreams there in your eyes
You touched my hand, you touched my heart
You held me through the night
It felt so right
But love, it isn't all romance
It's filled with clouds and stormy skies
But if we really care
So much is there
Why let it go?
Why let it go? Why run away?
When what we have is so worth fighting for
Why let it go, if every day
We can hide our feelings less
So we can love each other more
Why let it go?
I know that when I'm in your arms
There's no such thing as good goodbyes
'Cause I believe that we have found
A love of heart and mind
So hard to find
Why let it go?
Why let it go? Don't run away
It's not easy, but it's worth the fighting for
Why let it go? If every day
We can hide our feelings less
So we can love each other more
Why let it go?
Why let it go?
The lyrics to Barbra Streisand's song "Why Let It Go" explore the idea of holding onto a relationship and not giving up on love despite the obstacles and challenges that may arise. The song begins by depicting a moment of happiness and hope when the singer and their partner first meet. They see their dreams reflected in each other's eyes and feel a deep connection. The singer describes how their partner's touch and presence have brought comfort and a sense of rightness to their life.
However, the song acknowledges that love is not always smooth sailing. It is not just about romance but also about facing difficulties and weathering storms together. The line "We may have come too close, too fast" suggests that they might have rushed into the relationship without fully considering the potential challenges. Despite this, the lyrics emphasize that if they truly care about each other, there is so much worth fighting for. The singer questions why they should let go of such a love when it holds immense value.
The refrain repeats the central question of the song, urging the listener and the partner not to run away but to confront the struggles and find ways to express their love more openly and honestly. The repeated line "Why let it go?" is a plea to hold onto the love they have found and not give up on each other. The lyrics convey the belief that love is something worth fighting for, even when it is not easy, and that by facing their feelings head-on, they can deepen their love for each other.
Overall, "Why Let It Go" is a song that captures the complexities of love and encourages perseverance and open communication in relationships. It reminds us that love is not just about the beautiful moments but also about navigating through the challenges together.
