Barbra Streisand has recorded more than 60 albums, almost all with Columbia Records. Her early works in the 1960s (her debut The Barbra Streisand Album which won two Grammy Awards in 1963, followed by The Second Barbra Streisand Album, The Third Album, My Name Is Barbra, etc.) are considered classic renditions of theater and nightclub standards, including her version of Happy Days Are Here Again. Beginning with My Name Is Barbra, her albums were often medley-filled keepsakes of her television specials.
Starting in 1969, Streisand tackled contemporary songwriters; like many talented singers of the day, she found herself a fish out of water in attempts to tackle rock, but her vocal talents prevailed and she gained newfound success with the pop and ballad-oriented Richard Perry-produced album Stoney End in 1971. The title track, written by Laura Nyro, was a big hit for Streisand.
Streisand's 1980 album, Guilty featured the songwriting, production and vocal talents of Barry Gibb and was the best-selling album of her recording career. During the 1970s, she was also highly prominent in the pop charts, with number-one records like The Way We Were, Evergreen, No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) (her duet with Donna Summer), and Woman In Love; some of these came from soundtracks of her films. She recently took part in supporting Haiti in singing "We are the World 25th anniversary.
When the 1970s ended, Streisand was named the most successful female singer in the U.S. - only Elvis Presley and The Beatles having sold more albums. [1]
[1] In 1982, New York Times music critic Stephen Holden wrote that Streisand was "the most influential mainstream American pop singer since Frank Sinatra."
You Must Believe In Spring
Barbra Streisand Lyrics

The meadows of your mind,
Just think if Winter comes,
Can Spring be far behind?
Beneath the deepest snows,
The secret of a rose
Is merely that it knows
Just as a tree is sure
Its leaves will reappear;
It knows its emptiness
Is just the time of year
The frozen mountain dreams
Of April's melting streams,
How crystal clear it seems,
You must believe in Spring!
You must believe in love
And trust it's on its way,
Just as the sleeping rose
Awaits the kiss of May
So in a world of snow,
Of things that come and go,
Where what you think you know,
You can't be certain of,
You must believe in Spring and love
You must believe in love
And trust it's on its way,
Just as the sleeping rose
Awaits the kiss of May
So in a world of snow,
Of things that come and go,
Where what you think you know,
You can't be certain of,
You must believe in Spring and love
You must believe in Spring and love
You must believe in Spring and love
The lyrics to Barbra Streisand's song "You Must Believe in Spring" encourage listeners to maintain hope and optimism, even during the bleakest of times. The song describes the arrival of spring as a metaphor for the return of love and happiness after a period of loneliness and despair. The opening lines, "When lonely feelings chill the meadows of your mind," evoke a sense of isolation and sadness, but the chorus reminds us that "if Winter comes, can Spring be far behind?"
The second verse continues the metaphor, describing how even the coldest, snowiest winter contains within it the promise of new life. "Beneath the deepest snows, the secret of a rose is merely that it knows you must believe in Spring!" This line suggests that, like the rose waiting to bloom, we too must hold onto the hope that better days are ahead.
The final verse urges us to believe in love, even when it seems distant or unreachable. The repetition of the phrase "You must believe in Spring and love" reinforces the idea that hope and optimism are key to finding happiness and fulfillment.
Overall, "You Must Believe in Spring" is a poignant reminder of the power of hope, and a call to embrace the changing seasons of life with grace and perseverance.

When lonely feelings chill
When you're feeling lonely and sad
The meadows of your mind,
In your thoughts and emotions
Just think if Winter comes,
Consider the possibility that hard times may come
Can Spring be far behind?
But know that better times will come eventually
Beneath the deepest snows,
Even in the darkest and coldest of times
The secret of a rose
There is a hidden strength within us all
Is merely that it knows
That we must have faith and hope
You must believe in Spring!
To overcome our struggles and hardships
Just as a tree is sure
Just as nature knows to renew itself
Its leaves will reappear;
And life always returns
It knows its emptiness
Just as we all feel lost and alone at times
Is just the time of year
This too shall pass
The frozen mountain dreams
Nature holds secrets and beauty
Of April's melting streams,
Waiting for the right time to bloom
How crystal clear it seems,
The truth and beauty of life is revealed
You must believe in Spring!
Only if we believe in ourselves and have hope
You must believe in love
Love is the greatest strength and power
And trust it's on its way,
It is coming, just have faith
Just as the sleeping rose
Just as new life blooms from a sleeping seed
Awaits the kiss of May
Our own new beginning is near
So in a world of snow,
In a world of uncertainty and change
Of things that come and go,
Where nothing lasts forever
Where what you think you know,
Where knowledge and beliefs can be uncertain
You can't be certain of,
Life is never predictable
You must believe in Spring and love
But love and hope can see us through
You must believe in Spring and love
Belief is key to overcoming challenges
