The group was formed in 1991 when they were introduced to each other by manager Joe Jacket (of New Kids on The Block), who was looking to create a mainstream Latino group. After auditioning to Charles Koppelan, the CEO of EMI Records, they were then signed to SBK Records, a pop sub-division of EMI. They initially wanted to crossover as mainstream American pop singers, similar to Gloria Estefan, Jon Secada, and Selena. The following year, they released their debut album, "Crazy Coolin'", which they toured in middle and high schools across New York City, and made motivational speeches. Their single "Muy Suavemente", charted on the Billboard Latin Charts; its accompanying music video was shot in the barrios of New York City, sticking to their heritages. Their follow-up album "Dondequiera Que Estes" (1993) peaked on Billboard Latin Pop Albums at number-seven, whereas the album peaked at number-fifteen on the Billboard Top Latin Albums. The duet, with Selena, peaked at number-one on three Billboard charts in 1994 as Selena and the Barrio Boyzz promoted the song during her Amor Prohibido Tour. The song helped the Barrio Boyzz crossover to Southern United States Their next album, "Una Vez Mas" peaked at number three on the Latin Pop Albums, while managing on the top twenty of the Billboard Top 50 Latin Albums. Their crossover album, "How We Roll", an all-English language album, was released in 1995. The group continued to chart on Billboard until the release of Destiny in 2000. The group released their last studio album, "Destino" in 2001, before the band broke up. On 5 April 2005, during the benefit concert Selena ¡VIVE!, the Barrio Boyzz reunited and sang "Dreaming of You" along with Colombian-American singer Soraya, who died of breast cancer within a year.
Thought You Were Mine

Shoulda broken it down for you
Left with so many words to say
You know i had plans for you
Not only a physical thing
Cause there is no deeper love
Between you and i
Thought that you were mine (girl i thought that you were mine)
Waited all this time
Thought that you were mine
Thought that you were mine
Sweent and divine
That's the name of our love game
Don't play yourself girl
The way people talk to cruel
I'm hearin' em talk 'bout you
Didn't you know that my aim wa true
And i was goin' insane for you
I always thought you knew
You were my future and
There is a deeper amor
Between you and i
Thought that you were mine (girl i thought that you were mine)
Waited all this time
Thought that you were mine
Thought that you were mine
You know that i had plans for you
Not only a physical thing
Cause there is no deeper love
Between you and i
Thought that you were mine (girl i thought that you were mine)
Waited all this time
Thought that you were mine
Thought that you were mine
Thought that you were mine (girl i thought that you were mine)
Waited all this time
Thought that you were mine
Thought that you were mine
(repeat till fade)
In the song "Thought You Were Mine" by Barrio Boyzz, the lyrics reflect on a relationship that didn't end up being what the singer had hoped for. The opening lines suggest that the singer may have initially played it cool, not expressing their true feelings to the person they were interested in. They realize now that they should have been more open and honest about their emotions. The regret is evident as they mention having so many words left unsaid.
The chorus repeats the sentiment of thinking that the person was theirs. The singer had been waiting for this relationship to blossom, but it seems that it didn't turn out the way they anticipated. They emphasize the name of their love game, calling it "sweet and divine," perhaps indicating that they perceived the relationship as something special and meaningful. However, they warn the person not to deceive themselves, implying that there may have been misunderstandings or false expectations.
The second verse reveals the difficulties the singer faced when others talked cruelly about the person they were interested in. It's evident that the singer was deeply affected by these rumors and has been frustrated by the person's lack of awareness of their genuine intentions. They believed their love was real and profound, emphasizing that it wasn't just based on physical attraction. The singer wanted a future with this person, showcasing their longing for a lasting connection.
