He signed to Bell Records in the early 1970s, but by the end of the decade his popularity had declined. His final Top 40 hit in the UK Singles Chart occurred in October 1974, when "Hot Shot" climbed to Number 23. Although he never matched the commercial heights of his rivals such as The Sweet, Gary Glitter, David Bowie or T Rex, Barry Blue has continued to work in the pop music business, mostly as a producer for other artists. Blue's compilation album, Greatest Hits was released on Repertoire Records in 2002.
Blue's song "Escaping" has been recorded by Margaret Urlich (1989), Asian Blue (1992) and most commercially successfully by Dina Carroll in 1996.

Do you want to dance
Do you want to dance
Do you want to dance
Do you want to dance
Do you want to dance
Do you want to dance
Do you want to dance
Do you want to dance . . .
When can you get into the feeling
That' comin' through the floor
Can you feel it in the air
'Cause you know it's always there
Makes me want to dance some more
Well I need someone to cling to you
And you're standing all alone
Well you do your best and
Huh! I'll do the rest
Baby don't you hide yourself away
When I get to you I'm gonna say
Do you want to dance . .
Like a bullet out the blue
See
I'm aimin' right at you
'Cause you've got the chance so!
Come and dance
Do you
Do you
Do you want to try
Do you
Do you
Do you want to fly
Hey everybody
Do you want to dance along
Hey everybody
Do you want to dance along
Hey everybody
Do you want to
Well
Do you want to
Do you?
Do you want to dance
Do you want to .

The lines "When can you get into the feeling, that's comin' through the floor / Can you feel it in the air / 'Cause you know it's always there," capture the idea that dancing provides an unexplainable but undeniable feeling of joy and energy.
Additionally, the lyrics paint a picture of someone who is standing alone at the party and in need of a companion, but who doesn't have to feel that way for long, as the singer approaches them with the opportunity to dance together. The line "Well I need someone to cling to you / And you're standing all alone /Well you do your best and / Huh! I'll do the rest / Baby don't you hide yourself away" expresses the desire for human connection and the willingness to create it on the dance floor.
