Where Tomorrow Is
Barry Gibb Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'm a victim of love
And I reach for her cry
There's no perception of time
She's out of my world and I'm alone
The city sleeps , she comes and she goes
She loves another one
And I got no chance, no time
I can see nobody , tell me where my angel goes
I say the devil knows
I'm lost
No sky above me
No earth below me
Show me where tomorrow is and teach me to see
Someone else may cry for me , could be
Show me where tomorrow is 'cos I don't know
Show me where tomorrow is 'cos I don't know
Show me where tomorrow is
Suspicion
The lies on your lips and your tenderness
I lie in wait for the gift of her pain
She'll never be mine and I'm all alone
And through a stranger, lives can change
And hearts can overcome
But I need her face , so young
Ain't nothing stops the fire and it burns on
Too late now she tells me
We cannot live this lie
She came home to say goodbye
I'm lost
No sky above me
No earth below me
Show me where tomorrow is and teach me to see
Someone else may cry for me, could be
Show me where tomorrow is , 'cos I don't know
Show me , I must go on
Whatever the heart must take
I'll keep my love alive
And all you got is freedom
It ain't enough
I'm lost
No sky above me
No earth below me
Show me where tomorrow is and teach me to see
Someone else may cry for me , could be
Show me where tomorrow is , 'cos I don't know
Show me
"Where Tomorrow Is" is a melancholic love song that depicts the feelings of a man who has lost the love of his life. The lyrics speak of the pain and loneliness that he feels in the absence of his love, who has moved on with someone else. The opening lines, "She's gone, I'm a victim of love, and I reach for her cry" illustrate the character's desperation and longing for his lost love. He is struggling to come to terms with the fact that he has lost her, and he is alone in the city that they used to share.
The chorus of the song, "Show me where tomorrow is and teach me to see," expresses the character's despair and uncertainty about his future. He has lost his sense of direction and is seeking guidance to help him carry on without his love. The lines, "I'm lost, no sky above me, no earth below me," further emphasize his feelings of isolation and loss. He is struggling to find his place in the world without his love.
The final verse of the song has a bittersweet tone, with the character acknowledging that he must move on, even though his heart is still full of love for his lost love. The lines, "Whatever the heart must take, I'll keep my love alive, and all you got is freedom, it ain't enough," suggest that he will always love her, but he knows he must let her go. The song ends on a note of uncertainty, with the character still seeking answers and direction.

I love this song.
But then, I love most of Barry's songs throughout the decades.
His 80s phase is completely underrated my many, and unknown to most younger fans.
The great music never really stopped after the 70s were over.
In my humble opinion he was the greatest songwriter of the rock 'n roll era.
