Journal entries, journal entry
Dedicated to the niggas that switched
Dedicated to the women I miss
Dedicated to the one that I love
Never strained, I ain't fuckin' up this
Dedicated to my niggas that stayed
Dedicated to the seeds that we growin'
World revolve around this family I raised
Dedicated to the niggas that switched
Dedicated to the women I miss
Dedicated to the one that I love
Never strained, I ain't fuckin' up this
Dedicated to my niggas that stayed
With me even through my questionable ways
Dedicated to the seeds that we growin'
World revolve around this family we raised
I ain't a killer but don't slip up and tempt me
I paint a picture like I mentored da Vinci
The rain, it fill up on em, India and Sicily
I was young and not developed yet mentally
Mommy, daddy arguin' in the livin' room
I would come to learn that some things ain't meant to be
Guess I'm destined for a childhood of solitude
Introverted curbs, but nobody's listenin'
Father figure wasn't on television screens
Told me stories every day that were riveting
Homicidal niggas die over anything
All my idols either rapping or pivotin'
On the sofa every day, I resemble Macaulay Culkin while my mama deliverin'
Home alone without the mansion, I'm glancin' out windows, makin' sure no rappers is visitin'
Paranoid, 'cause I know the city is wild, I seen that shit with my own eyes
First time I 'member a nigga try break in our crib late at night, I was five
Dead tired, I called for my mama, somehow in that moment I realized
We was sittin' ducks, no man in the house, just two kids and her
And nowhere was her nigga, don't give a fuck, better toughen up
And it seem like that shit stuck with me
Keep your guard up, don't fuck with me
Niggas better know what's up with me, what's up with me
And it seem like that shit stuck with me
Keep your guard up, don't fuck with me
Niggas better know what's up with me
Dedicated to the niggas that switched (yeah)
Dedicated to the women I miss (yeah)
Dedicated to the one that I love (yeah)
Never strained, I ain't fuckin' up this (uh)
Dedicated to my niggas that stayed (yeah)
With me even through my questionable ways (yeah)
Dedicated to the seeds that we growin'
World revolve around this family we raised
Still recall coldest nights, dodging bullet showers
It ain't black and white like a Kurosawa
Got the money and fame, but we took the power
Spent it all, made it back, blew a million dollars
Went to school scholarship, but I weren't a scholar
I dropped out, I was hustlin', didn't tell my father
He was proud, I'm ashamed, I had broke my honor
Duckin' jack boys and D-Tecs they talkin' colors
TNT twice a week was a fuckin' problem
But you reap what you sow, I made coats of armor
GCP and IE was my road to karma
Sleepless nights, rappin' loads off from home to Harlem
Though my pockets was hungry, my soul was starvin'
Didn't reach my potential 'til Cole came callin'
Gave me space to reflect when the tour was startin'
Couldn't waste and neglect, had a bigger callin'
Almost died, saw the flash of life, callin' home from the afterlife
Crime pays, almost paid the price
Mama told me she prayed that my life spared
Devil on my shoulder like a boulder
But just when I needed you, God, you was right there
In my corner like Cus D'Amato Iron Mike from the city where nobody fight fair
Yeah, yeah
And it seem like that shit stuck with me
Keep your guard up, don't fuck with me
Niggas better know what's up with me, what's up with me
And it seem like that shit stuck with me
Keep your guard up, don't fuck with me
Niggas better know what's up with me
Dedicated to the niggas that switched (yeah)
Dedicated to the women I miss (yeah)
Dedicated to the one that I love (yeah)
Never strained, I ain't fuckin' up this (uh)
Dedicated to my niggas that stayed (yeah)
With me even through my questionable ways (yeah)
Dedicated to the seeds that we growin'
World revolve around this family we raised
In the song "Home Alone" by Bas and J. Cole, the artists delve into personal reflections and experiences, using vivid imagery and storytelling to convey a deeper message about loyalty, love, and resilience. The lyrics open with a sense of introspection, comparing the emotions expressed to journal entries, suggesting that these words are personal and raw, much like someoneโs inner thoughts captured on paper.
The repeated dedication to those who have stayed and those who have left emphasizes the theme of loyalty and betrayal. Bas and J. Cole acknowledge the people who have been constants in their lives and express appreciation for their unwavering support. The reference to love that is not strained signifies a commitment to preserving what is truly valuable and not jeopardizing it, indicating a sense of growth and maturity in relationships.
The lyrics then shift to a poignant recollection of childhood experiences, filled with moments of vulnerability and fear. The artists touch upon themes of family dynamics, absent father figures, and the harsh realities of growing up in a turbulent environment. The reference to feeling like Macaulay Culkin in 'Home Alone' without the luxury but with the same fear and vigilance against potential threats illustrates a sense of isolation and the need to protect oneself from external dangers.
As the song progresses, Bas and J. Cole reflect on their journey to success, highlighting the struggles and sacrifices they endured to reach where they are today. The narrative delves into moments of temptation, loss, and redemption, showcasing the resilience and determination to overcome obstacles. The mention of making mistakes, facing adversity, and finding solace in spiritual beliefs underscores a profound sense of personal growth and self-realization.
In the final verses, the artists circle back to the importance of staying vigilant and true to oneself, despite the challenges faced along the way. The lyrics serve as a reminder to keep one's guard up, be wary of those who may betray trust, and cherish the relationships that have stood the test of time. The repeated dedication to loved ones and the acknowledgment of the strength drawn from family ties underscore the central theme of unity and the significance of staying grounded amidst life's uncertainties. Overall, "Home Alone" paints a vivid portrait of personal growth, resilience, and the enduring power of relationships and self-discovery.
