Basia made an impression, particularly in the United Kingdom, United States, and Japan. She is noted for possessing a wide vocal range, approximately three octaves that span the contralto to soprano fachs, and her music is characteristically Brazilian influenced. Though she has two platinum albums "Time and Tide" and "London Warsaw New York", to her credit and a faithful fan base, she dropped out of the industry in 1998. However, resurfacing in 2004 with her longtime collaborator and writing partner, Danny White (younger brother of jazz guitarist Peter White) and Mark Reilly, the trio reformed the British cocktail-pop group Matt Bianco as the original lineup, which was met with critical success. A tour followed. In 2009, after a fifthteen years after the release of her third solo album, "The Sweetest Illusion", Basia released her fourth album, "It's That Girl Again." It was released on March 24, 2009. The lead single chosen for release in the U.S. is "Blame It On The Summer." The other singles released from the album are "I Must", "A Gift" and "If Not Now Then When." The album became another Top 5 smash on the Top Contemporary Jazz chart where it so far as charted as high as #5. One year later, Basia kicked off a world tour including many dates in the United States.

Just finished my PhD in Computer Science at North Texas State and moved back to San Antonio to the family home and start my career teaching at St. Mary's. I heard this song on Sirius XM 80's channel the other day and I hadn't heard this song in years. I remember watching this video on VH-1 quite a lot back in the day. This is definitely a lost 80's hit. I was in high school when this song came out. I'm disappointed that Basia didn't have more hits in the U.S. She has a great singing voice.

Tak, I hit the SUBSCRIBE button right away.! I love Barbara Stanisława Trzetrzelewska, my favorite Polish singer from the Fatherland of my paternal grandparents! I still have the old cassette tape of "Time and Tide" that I played over and over in the late 80's! I just discovered I can renew my relationship with BASIA on Spotify and even hear all of her music! Bravo and thank you for keeping her music alive and well!!!

Time and Tide was the first I heard of Basia. I heard it driving home in the middle of the night from a gig. That one bended note where the song modulates had me hooked. That moment when you realize you have discovered something special and unique. Can one note define a career? I saw her years later in concert and I teared up when the song got to that moment. I looked around and many other people were wiping at their eyes.

It is at 2:58. Modulate refers to the change in the music's modes, or chord progressions according to the key. At the time I noted, what occurs musically is an abrupt (unexpected) key change along with the high pitch vocal attack note that "bends" into the new key (and, more than anything else, the addition of the mixed in live audience sound) combines for what Mike Martin did accurately describe as the crowning moment of the song. It is the crescendo to which everyone anticipates the song will build, and from there, a place to descend happily to the resolution of the final chord. The journey is ike climbing a mountain and then coming back down again, Or for a better comparison, like watching a movie. When you watch your favorite film for the 100th time, you do like the ritual of the opening credits and the set-up, but it is really the certain scenarios, scenes and lines that usually come near the middle or end of the movie that are anticipated, and in this similar way, musical enjoyment is a constant anticipation of what is going to happen, and this song really does build itself around that moment, which make it worth waiting for.

Love, love, love this woman's voice and songs! I used to listen to her years ago and she is still one of the best voices ever. I first heard this while on vacation in Key West, summer of '89 -- and it swept me off my feet! The whole album was amazing and for the first and only time I wrote a fanboi letter to a celebrity (at the professional contact site listed on her album). Alas, I never got a reply, but the song (and album) continue to amaze me and remain all-time favorites ... and best of all, we now have this video, which does Time and Tide perfect justice. This song was part of the soundtrack for 1988 - a tumultuous and exciting year for a naive 18-year-old like me, who had left home and was living in a different state away from all my friends and any familiar landscapes. 'Time and Tide' is about love that endures, even when separated by miles and many days, and also love that does not endure, but is remembered fondly in the deep vaults of the heart.

I'm so sorry. I went through the same. So incredibly painful but you will heal slowly but surely. Listen to music that makes your spirit soar like an eagle and watch comedies non-stop. "it's Basia" love the way she speaks! its like 26 years this song came out the year before i was born and i swear everytime i hear it its like a new song and this is the first time i'm seeing this video i watched it like three time already lol...oh but i love love the sax solo at 3:20 awesome song!!!
