… Read Full Bio ↴Will Wiesenfeld AKA Baths was born in 1989, in Los Angeles, California.
Wiesenfield is a classically trained musician, and began learning the piano at the age of four “to compete with his brother”. By twelve he had “completely abandoned it,” but continual musical experimenting lead him to record his first piece of music at age fourteen. Under a previous moniker, [Post-foetus], he wrote four albums and three EPs. He also ventured into a more ambient style with side-project Geotic, a project which Irish magazine State.ie called “gorgeous”.
After adopting the name Baths, he released debut album Cerulean on independent record label Anticon. He recorded the entire album in two months from his bedroom. The BBC’s Mike Diver claims Baths’ nearest musical sound-a-like is chillwave musician Toro Y Moi. Pitchfork noted Baths’ influences, acts such as Björk and Flying Lotus, were “obvious” in his work.
Drowned in Sound noted Baths’ use of “unorthodox” sounds layered in and around the electronics, in particular “clicking pens, vocal samples, rustling blankets and scissor snaps”. British newspaper The Guardian’s Paul Lester commented he was reminded of “J Dilla playing around with the Pavement and Prince catalogues” while listening to the album. While a lot of his music is instrumental, it can occasionally incorporate vocals, most of them falsetto.
Cerulean was listed by the AV Club as the 21st best album of 2010. It made Pitchfork’s Album of the Year: Honorable Mention list.

If I form that
Graduates of tablature and bouquet of garages
Put us out to those mirages and nail it till we bust
I'm 16 and I'm unit, our instruments can do it
Every ounce shows that we blew it, we couldn't get to us
If I form that
Sing to me, I'm letting down, I'm falling
This fever slips, feeling the bouts of shivering
[?] sweat glands bleeding
Witnessed closest things with the loudest feelings
Come free in comradery
This fever slips, feeling the bouts of shivering
[?] sweat glands bleeding
Witnessed closest things with the loudest feelings
Come free in comradery
Well, the lecture is young
Dote on the friends of your loves
Sweet, sweet suffer is with each other
If I form
If I form
If I form
If I form that
Severed but spun in a loom
From silks of the Moon glow the vans of my youth
Now this performing body is all remaining moves
Floating my comradery in groups
If I form that
If I form that
If I form that
If I form that
If I used to be something more
This fever slips, feeling the bouts of shivering
[?] sweat glands bleeding
Witnessed closest things with the loudest feelings
Come free in comradery
This fever slips, feeling the bouts of shivering
[?] sweat glands bleeding
Witnessed closest things with the loudest feelings
Come free in comradery
Well, the lecture is young
Dote on the friends of your loves
Sweet, sweet suffer
If I form that
If I form that
If I form that
If I form that
The lyrics of Baths' song "I Form" seem to delve into themes of self-expression, artistic creation, and the search for connection and belonging. The repetition of "If I form that" throughout the song suggests a longing or desire to transform oneself or create something meaningful. The line "Graduates of tablature and bouquet of garages" could be interpreted as referencing those who have mastered the art of creating music and finding beauty in the mundane or ordinary aspects of life.
The following lines express a sense of frustration or disappointment in one's own abilities or accomplishments. The reference to being 16 and a "unit" suggests a feeling of insignificance or the inability to make a significant impact. The phrase "our instruments can do it" highlights the potential for creative expression to transcend personal limitations, while the mention of failure ("we blew it") emphasizes a sense of defeat.
The lyrics continually mention "this fever" and the feelings of shivering and sweat glands bleeding. This could be interpreted metaphorically as the artist's intense passion and emotional turmoil that come with the creative process. The reference to witnessing "closest things with the loudest feelings" suggests an intense and meaningful connection to the world and the people within it.
The song also explores the concept of comradery or camaraderie, where individuals come together and find freedom in shared experiences and emotions. The repeated line "Come free in comradery" suggests that this connection with others provides a sense of liberation and release from personal constraints.
Overall, "I Form" appears to be a reflection on the artist's journey in finding his own identity, grappling with creative expression, and seeking meaningful connections with others.
