Mañana
Bay City Rollers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Manana
Mana-na-na-na-na-na
Manana
Mana-na-na-na-na-na, Manana
Manana, Manana
Oh, Manana

My love she cried
With tears in her eyes
No "ifs" or "why's" so close to me
Holding me
She sighs

Manana...

They called today
Each kiss tries to say
While you're away remember me
Come back to me

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Manana
Mana-na-na-na-na-na
Manana
Mana-na-na-na-na-na, Manana
Manana, Manana
Oh, Manana
Oh, Manana
Manana, Manana, Manana, Mananna, Manana, Manana, Manana,
Manana, Manana, Manana, Mananna, Manana, Manana, Manana.

The stars still shine
And time after time
Burns in my mind desire for her
Such fire for her
Woh

Manana...

Manana
Mana-na-na-na-na-na, Manana
Mana-na-na-na-na-na, Manana

Manana, Manana
Il'l be home

Overall Meaning

The Bay City Rollers' song "Manana" is a classic love song about distance and longing. The chorus simply repeats the Spanish word "manana," which means "tomorrow," suggesting that the singer and his lover will reunite someday. The verses provide more detail about their situation, with the singer describing his lover's tears and her attempts to stay close to him through kisses.

The first verse sets the scene with the image of the singer's crying lover. She doesn't offer any explanations for her tears, but simply holds him close and sighs. The next verse describes a phone call that the singer receives from his lover, and each kiss they exchange is meant to convey a message of longing and remembrance. The bridge of the song repeats the word "manana" several times as the singer thinks about his desire for his lover.

Overall, the song is a powerful expression of love and connection despite distance and separation. The repeated chorus of "manana" reinforces the idea that their separation is only temporary and that they will be reunited someday soon.

Did you have the toy record player, and your parents got you the single Manana to play on it. My wee brother got Millies My Boy Lollipop. The Bay City Rollers were forever getting played on the radio in the daytimes in 71 ,72 ,73. Before Les and Woody came into the band. Replacing Nobby and John Devine.

Listent to it while in hospital in 1973 in Germany and then completly forgot about it. Always magic to hear something again after such a long time. Well, Howard & Blakely stole a little bit from the spirit and kind of Dave Dee Dozy Beaky Mick & Tich's "Zabadak", especially in the instrumental middle section, but that dosen't matter. Nice melody, well done. And the drums in the beginning here later Kenny stole as well for "The Bump"" ;-)
