Jon Philpot has previously released music as part of the duo Presocratics, in collaboration with guitarist and composer Need Thomas Windham. Presocratics released two albums on the record label Table of the Elements in 2001; both were produced by Philpot.
The first Bear in Heaven release (Tunes Nextdoor to Songs, Eastern Developments 2003) was an EP of solo recordings by Philpot, recorded in Atlanta, Georgia, with guest musicians performing on various instruments. Shortly after the release of Tunes Nextdoor to Songs, Philpot moved to Brooklyn, New York and joined with guitarist Adam Wills, keyboardist/guitarist Sadek Bazaraa (a graphic designer with Brooklyn design collective GH avisualagency), guitarist David Daniell (of San Agustin), and bassist James Elliott (Ateleia, School of Seven Bells). Eventually drummer Joe Stickney (drummer with Paul Duncan, Rhys Chatham's Essentialist project, and current touring drummer with Panthers) was added to the lineup. Daniell left Bear in Heaven in 2005 to focus on his solo project.
Red Bloom of the Boom, Bear in Heaven's first full-length album with the full band, was released in 2007 by the Hometapes record label.
Elliott left the band after the completion of the recordings of Red Bloom of the Boom to focus on School of Seven Bells and his solo project, Ateleia. Bear in Heaven now performs as a four-piece with Philpot on vocals, guitar and keyboards; Wills on guitar and bass; Bazaraa on bass and keyboards; and Stickney on drums.

Lovesick Teenagers
Bear in Heaven Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Our turn goes by
But not for too long
Our destination
By our misfortune
We are pulling past
Per the hour
But not for too long
Our destination
Driving away from the high road
We should find a flock of birds big enough
To pull us up from the low road
Come on
Come with us
We are falling straight down, so turn us up
Loud and clear
Before we crash into the ground
Lovesick Teenagers
Don't ever die
They will live forever
Even when you're too old
And you think you know more
And you know you know more
You'll be
Driving away from the high road
We should find a flock of birds big enough
To pull us up from the low road
Come on
Come with us
We are falling straight down, so turn us up
Loud and clear
Before we crash into the ground
Driving away from the high road
We should find a flock of birds big enough
To pull us up from the low road
Come on
Come with us
We are falling straight down, so turn us up
Loud and clear
Before we crash into the ground
The song "Lovesick Teenagers" by Bear in Heaven tells the story of young love and the idea that it can never truly die. The lyrics start with the metaphor of looking to the right and seeing their turn go by, paralleling the idea of missed opportunities in love. However, the band emphasizes that their misfortunes and past missed opportunities do not define them, as they continue driving towards their destination. The band also speaks to the idea of embracing the journey and the unknown, as they continue driving on towards their destination.
Throughout the song, the band uses driving on a low road as a metaphor for the lows and difficulties of young love. They sing "We are falling straight down, so turn us up loud and clear before we crash into the ground". This line emphasizes the importance of embracing every moment and making the most of it before it's gone. The chorus of the song, "Lovesick Teenagers, don't ever die. They will live forever" speaks to the idea that even as we grow older, those feelings of young love can still exist within us.
Overall, the song is a beautiful reminder to live in the present and embrace every moment of young love. It urges us to not be consumed by past missed opportunities, but instead continue driving forward towards our destination with the understanding that lovesick teenagers never truly die.

why does it matter if a show brought you here? just be happy that you found it. and if you liked it before it was on a show, be happy that the band is getting the recognition it deserves. right? :) no need to be stingy when it comes to music!♥

Dear reader, I saw this band live and though they are not my favourite band or one of them, theirs was the best concert I have attended. This is before the release of the second major album (their last album)
