Bodhisattva Vow
Beastie Boys Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

As I develop the awakening mind
I praise the Buddhas as they shine
I bow before you as I travel my path
To join your ranks, I make my full-time task
For the sake of all beings I seek
The enlightened mind that I know I'll reap
Respect to Shantideva and all the others
Who brought down the Dharma for the sisters and brothers
I give thanks for this world as a place to learn
And for this human body that I know I've earned
And my deepest thanks to all sentient beings
For without them, there would be no place to learn what I'm seeing
There's nothing here that's not been said before
But I put it down now so that I'll be sure
To solidify my own views
And I'll be glad if it helps anyone else out too

If others disrespect me or give me flak
I'll stop and think before I react
Knowing that they're going through insecure stages
I'll take the opportunity to exercise patience
I'll see it as a chance to help the other person
Nip it in the bud before it can worsen
A chance for me to be strong and sure
As I think on the Buddhas who have come before
As I praise and respect the good they've done
Knowing love can conquer hate in every situation
We need other people in order to create
The circumstances for the learning that we're here to generate
Situations that bring up our deepest fears
So we can work to release them until they're cleared
Therefore, it only makes sense
To thank our enemies despite their intent

The Bodhisattva path is one of power and strength
A strength from within to go the length
Seeing others are as important as myself
I strive for a happiness of mental wealth
With the interconnectedness that we share as one
Every action that we take affects everyone
So in deciding for what a situation calls
There is a path for the good for all
I try to make my every action for that highest good
With the altruistic wish to achieve Buddhahood
So I pledge here before everyone who's listening
To try to make my every action for the good of all beings
For the rest of my lifetimes and even beyond
I vow to do my best, to do no harm

And in times of doubt, I can think on the Dharma
And the Enlightened Ones who've graduated Samsara

@areyashore

What a shame I didn't track down my lady friend cop from years gone by just a few years back. She was in charge of the northern beaches where I live.

I simply had no idea where to start...then when I do have a look around it just didn't cross my mind it would be kinda easy to track her down.

Since retirement she has struck fame. That keeps a person more private confused why people that barely know her now want her time far more frequently.

Her career rising to the top blew me away.

I do realise I'm just one of many many many people she crossed paths with while being a cop whom she left a large imprint on.

Chances are she wouldn't have 5 minutes for a person she met briefly so very long ago.

Shore boff Inna n outta beauty sent her some messages via other cops during the following decade. Did those messages make it. who knows ..Juan would have to imagine some did and some didn't.

She would have met just so so many people and from the little research I have done since her retirement just a couple of year back.

She truly did impact many.

Remembering when we met...I did 95% of the talking. Trying to get myself out of a huge traffic jam of problems.

The unresolved arrest or removal of that teacher was as people might have gathered a huge day in my life to pull that confession off and work it all out while saying good bye to people I had known since I was 5 .

To not have made enquiries and to have avoided looking at it over the following years...well who could ever understand the mind of a 15 or 16 year old kid with so much on his plate he didn't want to face up to..

Best I let her be.

She was just one of many people...that have caused huge explosions when two souls meet n do a lil dance...so to speak..

I should really do da right fing n let this one sleep...even if the soul weeps....in disbelief....maybe even grief..that those souls shall never again fell complete...

Good luck to her..

When I first looked around at the cop shops...it was a ..forget..nope got it

A welfare check on an ole friend...

Truth be told..

Welfare check in complete..tick it off my list..

Maybe it is her fame I seek..n that ain't me..or us or Inna n outta beauty purpose in this life..

Hey this decent ladyboy U drove home last night...briefly met before..I fought it ain't half bad considerin da broad shoulders.. completely Jane was..den it laughed...I was like.. nope..it's got ballz...n I'm out....

@areyashore

Hey I'm missin a post... lost heaps last night...I was goin off..so wasn't shore if bein reported or temp ban..

Still funny as ya turned on da interior light causin ya boss to nearly hit dat tree cause ya blinded him trying to get ya .32 revolver out da glove box then hittin ya head cause ya took ya seat belt off first before interior light .then losin ya gun under ya seat..nearly causin the other unmarked cop cars to nearly tail end ya..4th n 5th cop cars..locked up..hit da fence didn't they..then the marked cop cars are like..fuuuk look at us..hangin out wif da detectives..pullin out da shot guns n riot squad..inbound from Blacktown...

Ya nearly shot me ya dump biatch...she has the pin pulled back..runs to da front..soz I'm late....den she was like..freeze mufafukkinfukka

I was like...25 minutes it took ya..ya cop shop...is only 2 minutes walk from here ffs..

Then I was like...don't shoot me..but mufafukkinfukka ya look so gangsta in that hand me down suit...did ya get it from that fukwit....

Then I placed her in charge...told her...hey go tell ya partner he's in charge .. U ever been punched in the face...she lied...yep I'm in charge ..yep..big guy punched me in da face..I was like..cause ya weren't lookin right.. she's like....yep..

Then I was like .insert 10 minutes of them screamin' put ya hands uP .. WHO DID YA SHOOT YA GANG LEADER MUFAFUKKINFUKKA..

I WAS LIKE..NO..GO FUKKK YASELVES..not putting me hands uP...why..cause I don't wanna..that's why...HURRY DA FUKKKKK UP N SHOOT ME..OR STOP BEIN WANKERS...YA USELESS WANKERS..

9 years ago today we lost MCA Adam Yauch. I am indebted to him for playing such a role in introducing me to Buddhism and the Path of the Bodhisattva.

@liketheroman

I can't believe that it's been 9 years. I'm here to spend a few minutes thinking of him, and what a positive influence he's been.

RIP MCA

@thudor1

I met him at the March 10th commemorative rally in NYC one year. He was carrying his little daughter on his shoulder.

@healingmomentum

Yes! Without yauch, we don’t get the doc “unmistakable child” —- and without that film, I don’t adopt my son from China…. Bless your soul MCA!!!
