Beatsteaks Lyrics

I had a hard time making the call
What you're dying about is drying me out
And what is coming is taking control
After you laid off your medication
I feel hungover, cut the connection
I got no reason to communicate
Know where your story goes
Nowhere but down below
Ain't complaining
Oh
Anything near you worth the attention
I cut the cord off my telephone
You're not wasting my precious time
What you're on about is just wearing me out
And I've been, I've been trying for too long
I got no reason to communicate
I got no reason to communicate
Know where your story goes
Nowhere but down below
Ain't complaining
Ain't complaining
Oh
I got no reason to communicate
I got no reason to communicate
Know where your story goes
Nowhere but down below
Ain't complaining
Oh, oh
Ain't complaining
The song "Ain't Complaining" by Beatsteaks tackles the issue of toxic relationships and negative people in our lives that drain us and bring us down. The lyrics suggest that the singer has had enough of dealing with someone's constant complaining, and their negative energy has begun to affect him. He had a hard time even calling this person on the phone, knowing the negativity that awaited him on the other end. The other person has stopped taking their medication, and it has left the singer feeling hungover from their energy. He cuts the connection with the person, refusing to waste any more of his precious time and cut the cord off his telephone. He expresses that he knows where their story goes, nowhere but down below, implying a hopeless or sad trajectory for the other person.
The chorus, "I got no reason to communicate, Know where your story goes, Nowhere but down below, Ain't complaining" reiterates the singer's decision to distance himself from this negative person, and he isn't regretful or complaining about it. He knows what they're about and chooses to move on, not letting their negativity affect him anymore.
Overall, the song's message is empowering, encouraging the listener to let go of negative people in their lives and to not let anyone affect their energy or bring them down.
