As I Please
Beatsteaks Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But I've come to rearrange
Gotta put yourself at ease
I do exactly as I please
And I know you can be whole
So don't you ever forget that
Forget about the circus
Listen it up and fake the crown
And bounce around the circus
Listen to the ones who drive you home
Now you guess my name
Why I've come to rearrange
Gotta put yourself at ease
I do exactly as I please
In Beatsteaks's song "As I Please," the lead singer addresses an unknown person who does not know their name but indicates that they have come to rearrange things. This person is focused on putting themselves at ease and doing whatever they please. The singer acknowledges that the other person can also achieve a sense of completeness or wholeness by not forgetting who they truly are.
The chorus advises the listener to "listen it up" and take control of their own situation by ignoring distractions and staying focused. The line "bounce around the circus" suggests that life can often feel like a chaotic circus, and the key is to find a way to navigate through it all. The song encourages the listener to listen to the people who help them and keep them grounded, like those who drive them home.
Overall, "As I Please" is a song about finding balance, staying true to oneself, and not giving in to external pressures. It speaks to the universal desire to live life on one's own terms and not be swayed by other people's expectations or opinions.
