Help Me
Becca Stevens Band & Joni Mitchell Lyrics

I think I'm falling
In love again
When I get that crazy feeling, I know
I'm in trouble again
I'm in trouble
'Cause you're a rambler and a gambler
And you love your lovin'
But not like you love your freedom
Help me
I think I'm falling
In love too fast
It's got me hoping for the future
And worrying about the past
'Cause I've seen some hot hot blazes
Come down to smoke and ash
We love our lovin'
But not like we love our freedom
Didn't it feel good
We were sitting there talking
Or lying there not talking
Didn't it feel good
You dance with the lady
With the hole in her stocking
Didn't it feel good
Didn't it feel good
Help me
I think I'm falling
In love with you
Are you going to let me go there by myself
That's such a lonely thing to do
Both of us flirting around
Flirting and flirting
Hurting too
We love our lovin'
But not like we love our freedom
The song "Help Me" by Becca Stevens Band and Joni Mitchell is a representation of the struggles and doubts of falling in love too fast. In the first verse, the singer talks about how they recognize the familiar feeling of falling in love and how it usually causes trouble. They know they're in trouble because of the love interest's characteristics. They're a rambler, a gambler, and a sweet-talking ladies' man who adores their freedom a lot more than their love interests.
The second verse reflects the singer's doubtfulness in their relationship. They are hoping for a future with their love interest but they're also worried about the past. They've seen how previous hot and passionate flames have turned into smoke and ash. They emphasize the fact that they love loving, but they love their freedom a lot more. The following lines have a fun-loving and nostalgic tone where the singer relishes the feeling of being in love. They mention dancing with the lady with the hole in her stocking and how good it felt.
The final verse shows the singer acknowledging their feelings and admitting that they are falling in love with the love interest. The line "Are you going to let me go there by myself? That's such a lonely thing to do" highlights the singer's need for the love interest to reciprocate their feelings. They both have been flirting around but it's also been hurting them both. The chorus emphasizes how both of them love their freedom but also love loving.

Ms. Stevens' voice is just as good in delivering this song as Joni, but I would love to see her with a different band set up for this jazzy song that really isn't folk. But you just have to love her and them for being genuine in their delivery. Becca you are awesome!!

Yea, there's a more recent article, I can't remember where it was, in which she discusses how Joni, Bjork and Tori Amos were her "songwriting mums"
