Bell Biv Devoe's debut album Poison has a variety of producers, including Dr. Freeze and Spyderman, Wolf & Epic (Richard Wolf & Bret "Epic" Mazur), Guy's Timmy Gatling, and Public Enemy's Hank Shocklee and Keith Shocklee. As a result, Bell Biv DeVoe's first album "Poison" has a larger new jack swing composition as compared to New Edition releases. BBD was a pioneering group that was the first to successfully combine hip-hop with R&B & pop. The CD was released in 1990, and its title track became a #1 hit on the R&B chart. The singles that followed were "Do Me!", "B.B.D. (I Thought It Was Me)?", "When Will I See You Smile Again", and "Dope!" (the latter was retitled "She's Dope!" upon release due to the rising drug abuse among children). Poison sold over three million copies. The remix album WBBD-Bootcity! The Remixes, with the Wolf & Epic produced "Word To The Mutha!" as accompanying single, was released the next year and was certified gold.
Bell Biv Devoe sold in excess of 4 million albums, prompting performances on the 1990 American Music Awards and other such ceremonies.
Bivins took time off from recording to search for new talent and bring together the East Coast Family, discovering and producing debut albums for the groups for Another Bad Creation and Boyz II Men, and little known Sudden Impact. They had two name changes, first to Whytguys and then to The Outsiderz. Bell Biv DeVoe's second album, Hootie Mack, was released in 1993 and spawned the singles "Gangsta", "Above The Rim", "Something In Your Eyes" and "Show Me the Way".
In 1996, Bell, Bivins, and DeVoe participated in the reunion of New Edition and toured in support of the CD Home Again on the MCA record label. In 2001, Bell Biv DeVoe's third album, B.B.D., was released. This latest effort saw Bell Biv Devoe exploring a more, hardcore rap style/R&B approach. It received mixed reviews. "BBD" was marginally successful peaking at #62 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
Ronnie DeVoe is now a real estate agent in the Atlanta, Georgia area but still remains with New Edition.[1] He is very passionate about nutrition, especially healthy eating, and is currently collaborating with the group Viking Pimps on their up-coming album.
In October 2008, Bell, Biv, and Devoe were on the radio with V103 (Atlanta) where they played a sneak peak at a new track entitled, "That Girl." Another sneak peak is also available for valentines day called "welcome to my heart." See link below.
In February 2009, Bell Biv Devoe dropped 2 new tracks on itunes. " Welcome to My Heart " and " You ". They are working on a new album.
In June 2009, Bell Biv Devoe performed with Ne-Yo at the 2009 BET Awards. Visit http://www.myspace.com/officialbellbivdevoe their official MySpace.

Th-th-th-that (yeah)
That girl's dope
Mmm mmm mmm
Dope
Say it loud
Say it loud
That girl's dope
I saw her picture in the magazine
Her body's dope and you know what I mean
She looks so hot, it makes me full of steam
She reminds me of a sexy X-rated video queen
I might just take my time
And make that girl mine
She's dope and I know she's good
I can't cope 'cause that girl is dope
That girl is dope
Say it loud
She's dope
That girl is dope
Say it loud
That girl's dope
She's fly
Definitely wanna make you scream
Her body's like a built machine
Everybody's asking if she's mine
Girls like this are really hard to find
Yeah, beautiful (word)
Girls like this are really hard to pull
Everybody's always saying nope
I can't cope 'cause that girl is dope
That girl is dope
Say it loud
Dope
She's dope
That girl is dope
Say it loud
That girl's dope
Mmm mmm
Dope
Dope
Say it loud, say it loud
Say, say, say it loud
Say, say it
Say it, say it loud
Say it loud
Say, say, say it loud
Say it
Physical attraction, maxing, relaxing
That dope, dope body enticing
Mmm, I about to get loose
Come here, girl,
I wanna knock your boots
Left, right, right, left, back
Honey sweat, B.B.D. in effect
A hundred percent class
You pass by the class
She's shaped like an hourglass
She's (dope) body stronger than Bacardi
She's the best of all the girls in the party
Mean, scheme, fiend, clean, sheen
She's a superior being, know what I mean
Fly, beautiful hype on
Word is bond, bag it up and I'm gone
All you brothers out there can't cope
(Let me get it, M.B.)
Nope, the girl is dope
That girl is dope
Say it loud
Dope
She's dope
That girl is dope
Say it loud
Dope, dope
That girl's dope
Say it loud
Dope
She's dope
That girl is dope
Dope
Say it loud
That girl's dope
Mmm mmm
The song "Dope" by Bell Biv DeVoe talks about a woman who is undeniably attractive and desirable. The title of the song directly refers to this woman as being "dope," which can be interpreted as something that is outstanding, admirable or exceptional. The lyrics describe the woman's physical appearance as being seductive and alluring ("Her body's dope"). The singer is drawn to her and he wants to make her his own ("I might just take my time and make that girl mine").
The chorus of the song functions like a chant where the singers repeat the words "That girl is dope" over and over, which further emphasizes the woman's physical appeal. The verses of the song depict the singer admiring the woman's striking features and being utterly captivated by her beauty.
Overall, the song appears to be a celebration of the female form and a tribute to a specific woman who embodies the qualities of perfection and excellence. The song's lyrics express a common male desire for an attractive and sexy woman, and the word "dope" is used to represent the ultimate female fantasy.

People don't understand the impact BBD had on the music industry. For 2+ years, they were crushing EVERYTHING. They influenced countless artists and producers. They arguably made the remix a genre of its own.

The background dancers were actually the choreographers called Straight Ahead. BBD met them at a talent show in LA and they came in second place and they hired them. Their names are Debra, Nikita, Tawilla and Marzella. I was as much a super fan of them as I was of BBD.
