In 1994 an American Gothic band located on Long Island/New York City area released a demo tape. Soon after some tracks were recorded for Cleopatra Records label compilations.

Hear Me
Bell Book & Candle Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
where are you goin' astray
why don't you give somebody else a bad name
I thought that we two always wanted the same
it doesn't matter if she spends a little time with you
baby can you hear me - don't you hear me
baby can you hear me - don't you hear me
where are you runnin' to play
why do you hide and cover all that has been
will this be just another bad movie scene
now do you really spend that little bit of time with her
baby can you hear me - don't you hear me
baby can you hear me - don't you hear me
In Bell Book & Candle's "Hear Me," the singer is asking their lover a series of questions, expressing frustration and concern about their unfaithfulness. The singer wonders where their lover has been and where they are going astray. The singer begs their lover to not give somebody else a bad name and is confused why their lover is spending time with someone else when they thought they both wanted the same thing. The singer questions what their lover is running away to play and why they hide and cover all that has happened. The singer is worried that their relationship will turn into just another bad movie scene if their lover keeps being unfaithful. The singer even questions if their lover really is spending that little bit of time with the other person.
Overall, the lyrics convey feelings of betrayal, confusion, and desperation for communication. The singer is trying to reach out to their lover, asking them to listen to their pleas and hear them out. The repetition of "baby can you hear me - don't you hear me" emphasizes the need for communication and the singer's desire to be heard.
