All for This
Ben Moody Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Seventeen and self assured in secret so to blame
Hold it in, it's not a sin, it's just a shame
You're not alone, this man he loves you
In spite of everything you are
But not by my grace

Of the shadows cast in corridors of human hearts
Faith is fact my favorite fiction by far
And every step I've ever taken
In its grip, the core's the same
I've fallen on my face

I, I'm no more than what you see
Never let me halfway on a cross or on my knees
Time took all the faith I need
Born to stand on trial, abandoned by the hand that feeds

Close your eyes and hold on, this will all be over soon
Just another pound of flesh before you go
And after all the dirt and pain and hate and sin has washed away
What's left of me to love?

If you love me at all
Just let me go and be no more

Jesus, though I don't believe in this whole give-and-take
Won't you just deliver me once more for old times' sake?

x2

My faith, my fears, all I believe
My home, my heart is all I have free

My smile, my tears, all I have free
Will die with you and this to see

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Ben Moody's song "All for This" speak of a troubled, self-assured seventeen-year-old who feels she is to blame for a secret she holds inside. Despite this, she is comforted by a man's love for her - a love that isn't given by the grace of the singer. The themes of shame and faith continue as the singer reveals that he has fallen on his face and that his faith has been tested over time. He speaks of feeling abandoned and standing trial, abandoned by the hand that feeds. The lyrics go on to describe a plea to be delivered once more by Jesus, even if the singer does not believe in the concept of give-and-take. The final lines of the song speak of the singer's fears and beliefs, which will die along with the person they are speaking to.

The lyrics paint a picture of someone who is struggling with their faith and feeling alone despite the love they receive from another. The themes of shame, guilt, and questioning one's beliefs are all present in the song, making it a poignant and relatable message for those who may be feeling lost or unsure in their own lives.

Fear No Evil

I love Amy. and I love Ben. For what they created and put into my world with their music. Regardless of what happened to one of my favorite bands in 2003, I still went on to love Amy's direction with Evanescence and today I understand Ben's reasons for leaviing and appreciate his art still as well. People change, we grow apart from those we never thought we could, but it doesnt change the wonderful things we made together when we were one. This album is great.

I like these lyrics

TheCrimsonMelody

@haleyrockerz There was alot of tension, Ben explained how he was less adventurous than she was he wanted to keep the same sound and make a new album every year but Amy wanted to change it and make it different (like the open door was) they never saw eye-to-eye on that so he left abruptly in their tour. He decided to leave because he knew it he stayed he and Amy would have destroyed the band and he didn't want to because he loved Evanescence.

TheCrimsonMelody

My pleasure

KAPalmer56

Sounds like the last words are "this disease" to me.

Kim Sander

Isn't it at the end "will die with you and this disease"instead of "to see"?

TheCrimsonMelody

@rockandmetalfan1000 I found the lyrics from a WATF Forum, it was the ONLY lyrics from this song on the internet. So I'm not sure.
