Fade
Ben Stitt Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh you
a forrest soft around me
not yet awake but slowly
moving dust across your face

Fade
yellow lines are moving
at the sight of morning
in waist deep fog
the forrest stoped

Now I walk
Out of the dark,
now I walk
Out of the dark,
now I walk
Out of the dark,
now I walk
Out of the dark

Away
momentary silence
in a field of violet
flowers spread across my palms

Now
reality in motion
drowned my old devotion
I settled past the raising sun
Now I walk
Out of the dark,
now I walk
Out of the dark,
now I walk
Out of the dark,
now I walk
Out of the dark

And then I saw how
Out of the dark
That through it all I
Out of the dark
I found a path now
Out of the dark

And so I walk out
Out of the dark

Overall Meaning

In Ben Stitt's song "Fade", the lyrics present a vivid description of a forest and a field, both of which represent an internal journey of the singer. The beginning of the song has the singer describing the forest softly around them and the dust moving across someone's face. The forest is almost completely or partially asleep and barely becoming lucid, whilst being gentle and embracing. The second stanza applies imagery from the morning sky with yellow lines in motion, yet another reference to motion and the external world. We then see the lyrics take a turn to the singer who walks out of their darkness, which can be interpreted as the internal darkness the singer was trapped in.

The third stanza has the singer talking about walking away from their darkness, referring to the momentary silence and the field of violet, which can also refer to the tough situation the singer was in, and they realize that they have come out of the darkness. There are no more obstacles, and they start to accept the reality and the things happening around them. The singer then feels content, having found the path and the light they were searching for.

Overall, the song has a touching message that after one has endured darkness, acceptance can soon follow, and a path can be found, as long as the individual holds onto hope and has the willpower to keep moving.
