Beast In The Field
Benedictum Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's a beast in the field
There's a lion in the night
Ever stalking with a passion
Ever hiding from the light
And his name is the only
And his name is the one
And he won't stop destroying til his wicked work is done
Children run, children run, children run
The night time is falling
The voices are calling a beast
There's a beast in the field
The world keeps on turning but we are not learning
A beast
There's a beast in the field

There's a beast
There's a beast

There's a beast in the field
There's a lion in the night
Overcome by our weakness we have no strength to fight
Better run little children
better run, better flee
For the beast that I speak of is alive roaming free

Children run, children run, children run

The night time is falling the voices are calling a beast
there's a beast in the field
The whole world is turning but we are not learning
A beast
there's a beast in the field

Don't look into his eyes
For fools confound the wise

This deranged, dark usurper tears the fabric of the soul
Look upon your own person
Now is half what was whole
The most primal of instincts is to stand, fight, or flee
At this time I beseech you to make haste and come with me
Approaching, encroaching, it lives a lie
Controlling, imposing, it will take your life!

The night time is falling
The voices are calling a beast
There's a beast in the field
The world keeps on turning but we are not learning

A beast
There's a beast in the field

Overall Meaning

The song "Beast in the Field" by Benedictum talks about a powerful force that creates havoc and destruction in the world. The lyrics paint a picture of a wild animal, a beast, that lurks around the fields at night waiting to prey on its victims. The chorus, "Children run, children run, children run" is a warning for everyone to beware of this beast and flee for their safety. The song goes on to say that we are weak and overcome by our weaknesses, which make us vulnerable to this beast.

The lyrics also caution the listener not to look into the eyes of the beast for the "fools confound the wise." This suggests that facing this beast or engaging with it may not be the best course of action. Instead, the song urges us to run and take refuge from this monstrous creature. The song concludes with the assertion that the world keeps turning, but we, as humans, fail to learn from our mistakes, and this beast in the field continues to ravage us.

OMG what a band. I love it. Especially the voice of Veronica.

Scott Krasowski

I have a demo version of this song from around 1987 when Veronica was in a Christian Metal band. Both versions are really cool. It's great to hear her still belting out the tunes!

@Scott Krasowski The Medusa stuff I have is on cassette tape. I had one song mastered to 1/4" reel to reel. I hope to get some of this stuff digitized soon. There was also a song called Mirror. I still have Malady CD's.

@Tom Hogue Wow, yes. This is like talking to a ghost from the past.
Do you have good quality sounding recordings of those songs? Maybe already transferred to CD!
The copy I have is on tape, only 2 of those songs, plus DeRoque songs and at least one other band I don't even know the name of. Lots of background hiss, a drop out or two as well.

Tom Hogue

It had Shell Shock, Beast in the Field, The Seer and The Almighty.
