All Who Are Thirsty
Benton Brown Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All who are thirsty
All who are weak
Come to the fountain
Dip your heart in the streams of life
Let the pain and the sorrow
Be washed away
In the waves of his mercy
As deep cries out to deep, we sing
Come Lord Jesus, come
Come Lord Jesus, come
Come Lord Jesus, come
Come Lord Jesus, come
All who are thirsty
All who are weak
Come to the fountain
Dip your heart in the streams of life
Let the pain and the sorrow
Be washed away
In the waves of his mercy
As deep cries out to deep, we sing
Holy Spirit come
Holy Spirit come
Holy Spirit come
Holy Spirit come
Come and breathe on us again
Come and breathe on us again
Come and visit us again
Come and visit us again
As deep cries out to deep
As deep cries out to deep
As deep cries out to deep
We sing
Come Lord Jesus, come
Come Lord Jesus, come
Come Lord Jesus, come
Come Lord Jesus, come
Come and breathe on us again
Come and breathe on us again
Come and visit us again
Come and visit us again
The Spirit and the bride say come
The Spirit and the bride say come
Come Lord Jesus
Come Lord Jesus, come
Make way for the King of glory
Make way for the King of glory
Open up you gates, open up you gates
Let the King of glory in

Let the King of glory in
Let the King of glory in

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Benton Brown's song "All Who Are Thirsty" convey a message of spiritual renewal and transformation. The song opens with an invitation to those who are spiritually thirsty or weak to come to the fountain and dip their hearts in the streams of life. The lyrics suggest that through this act of surrender and immersion, one's pain and sorrow can be washed away in the waves of God's mercy. The chorus repeats the refrain of "Come Lord Jesus" and "Holy Spirit come" as an invocation of divine presence and power to effect this transformation.

The repetition of the phrase "as deep cries out to deep" can be interpreted as an expression of the soul's yearning for communion with God. The bridge of the song shifts the focus from the individual to the collective, as the Spirit and the bride (i.e. the church) join their voices in calling for the Lord's presence. The final verse of the song shifts the mood from introspection to celebration, with the repeated exhortation to "make way for the King of glory" and open the gates to let Him in.

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart

Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight; everything is uncovered and exposed before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we profess

Jesus understands every weakness of ours, because he was tempted in every way that we are. But he did not sin
πŸ•ŠοΈβœοΈβ€οΈ
So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. - Matthew 5:6

It's so strange how the mind works. I used to hate this song because I would hear it all the time as a kid because of the CD my Dad would play all the time. But here I am, coming back to it years later with a nostalgic love for it. I don't really understand it, nor can I explain it, but I actually kind of love this song now.
