Rock ‘n’ Roll began to become Recognizable as a genre around 1949, when there was a string of ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll hits in the BillBoard R&B charts. Bill Haley, however, was the first crossover act, having a top-20 in 1953 with ‘Crazy Man Crazy’ Berry only made the scene in 1955, with ‘Maybellene’, however, his career as a pop artist temporarily floundered during the crucial year of 1956, as his follow-up records were considered to weak, to similar to Maybellene, or to Racial, in the case of ‘Brown Eyed Handsome Man’. Elvis blew up during this point, with some of the strongest and most recognizable records in the whole genre being made by him at that point. If sheerly by success, Elvis is king. But don’t get me wrong, Chuck is a legend.

Chuck Berry Helped create a sound for a Generation, he influenced his own peers with many of them covering his song's and he also influenced the next generation that came along in the early 60s.
As a pioneer, a creator of rock and roll he stands alongside Elvis, Little Richard and maybe a couple of others.
A Handful perhaps Half a Dozen at most from the 50s, the rest many of who may have been creative and influential to some were mainly just bandwaggoners who for the large part copied directly or imitated the inventors, creators of this sound.
The early 60s saw music taken in a new direction, still influenced heavily by these pioneering musicians but with a different sound.
As a Teenager in the mid 50s its difficult to explain how different music became in the space of just a couple of year's, the change was radical.
The groups from the early 60s had a similar effect, perhaps not quite as much as by then rock music was an established thing, they just gave it a different sound, and it was noticeably different than the music of the last couple of year's.
The first Rock and Roll song I ever heard was Shake Rattle and roll by Bill Haley, this would have been very early 1955, it made the top 10 in the UK, there wasnt anything that sounded like this before, it stood completely alone, and it wasnt until late summer of 55 that Rock around the clock came, this was a massive hit in the UK making no.1, then in early 56 We heard Elvis and the rest of them, Bill Haley was still putting songs high in the UK charts throughout 1956 and into early 57, he then started sounding samey and funnily enough old fashioned

I used to listen to this song maybe 3 years ago and have suddenly recalled it now. 3 years ago I could understand English much worse than I do now and also now I'm experiencing my last year of school. So I almost started to cry how true and accurate the lyrics is, in every aspect.
