My Heart
Bert Ambrose Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I took one look at you
That's all I meant to do
And then my heart stood still

My feet could step and walk
My lips could move and talk
And yet my heart stood still
Though not a single word was spoken
I could tell you knew
That unfelt clasp of hands
Told me so well you knew
I never lived at all
Until the thrill of that moment
When my heart stood still

I took one look at you
That's all I meant to do
And then my heart stopped right there

My feet could step and walk
My lips could move and talk
And yet my heart stood still

Though not a single word was spoken
I could tell you knew
That unfelt claps of hands
Told me so well you knew
I never lived at all

Until the thrill of that moment
When my heart stood still

Overall Meaning

In "My Heart Stood Still" by Bert Ambrose, the lyrics express the instant and profound impact that someone has on the singer. The song begins with the singer describing how a single glance at this person was enough to make their heart stop, emphasizing the overwhelming power of their presence. Despite being able to physically move and speak, their heart remains still, signifying the emotional intensity of this encounter.

The singer goes on to express that even without exchanging any words, there is a deep understanding between them. The unspoken connection is demonstrated through a "clasp of hands," a gesture that conveys a shared awareness and recognition. With this implicit understanding, the singer recognizes that they have never truly lived before this moment. The thrill they experience in that instant when their heart stands still is what makes their existence feel complete.

Overall, "My Heart Stood Still" is a song that captures the transformative power of a single encounter, where words become unnecessary and the heart takes center stage. It explores the idea of love at first sight and the profound impact that one person can have on another, ultimately bringing fulfillment and a sense of truly being alive.

świetne nagranie ! :)

Roger Kent

Regardless of the evocative period images which are always good to see this is a superb, faultless Ambrose performance which demonstrates that his was the premier dance band of the time. Hylton was as polished but was more of a 'show' band I believe.
