Star of many Paramount musicals. Starred in The Greatest Show on Earth, Annie Get Your Gun and Miracle of Morgans Creek. Her singing career was on the up when unfortunately the RIAA put a stop to all recordings in the early forties. She had just had a number one with "Doctor, Lawyer, Indian Chief" so this was bad timing for her. Stormed out of her Paramount contract over personal issues in the early 50's and with bad TV choices (Satin and Spurs getting awful reviews) decided to stick to live performing.
Lost her singing voice in the 70's as her private life was in turmoil. Turned to Catholicism after beating alcohol addiction. Returned to Broadway in 1980 as a replacement Miss Hannigan in Annie. Earned a master's degree in psychology from Salve Regina University, where she became friends with Kristin Hersh. Passed away in 2007.

But his vocabulary is killin this romance of mine
We get into an intimate... situation
And then begins this Romeo′s conversation
He says murder, he says, every time we kiss
He says murder, he says, at a time like this
He says murder, he says, is that the language of love
He says, solid, he says, takes me in his arms
And says, solid, he says,, eaning all my charms
He says, solid, he says, is that the language of love?
He says, chick chick, you torture me
Zoom, are we livin?
I'm thinkin of leaving him flat
He says, dig dig the jumps
The old ticker is giving
He can talk plainer than that
He says, murder, he says, every time we kiss
He says, murder, he says, keep it up like this
He says, murder, he says, in that impossible tone
We′ll bring on nobody's murder
But his own
He says, Jackson, he says, and my name's Marie
He says, Jackson, he says, shoot the snoot for me
He says, Jackson, he says, is that the language of love?
He says, mmmhmm, when he likes my hat
He says, tsk tsk, what the heck is that?
He says, woo hoo! he says, is that the language of love?
He says hep hep with helium
Now babe, we′re cookin
Another expression′s too it
He says, we're in the groove
And the groove is good lookin
Sounds like his uppers don′t fit!
He says, murder, he says
Every time we kiss
He says, murder, he says
Keep it up like this
In that, murder, he says
In that impossible tone
We'll bring on nobody′s murder
But his own
"Murder He Says" by Betty Hutton is a humorous and ironic song that describes a romantic relationship with a man that has an unusual way of expressing his love towards the woman he is with. The song starts with the singer describing her new partner as an almost divine man, but with a vocabulary that is ruining their relationship. Every time they get intimate, he uses words and phrases related to death, violence, and danger, creating a contrast between the romantic atmosphere and the tense language used.
The man's peculiar way of expressing himself continues throughout the song. He uses expressions such as "solid," "chick chick," "Zoom," and "torture me," creating a comical and nonsensical language that contrasts with the seriousness of the idea of murder. The woman seems bewildered and sometimes concerned, while the man seems oblivious to the irony and continues to talk about murder, even when she protests.
Overall, the song is a playful and funny representation of romance and the strange ways people express their feelings. The use of language and irony creates an entertaining piece that is still enjoyed by audiences today.
