Between Thieves' first album under Tattoo was a self-titled offering released in 1997 that included the hit "Despite The Rain". After the album release and a tour with "Code of Ethics", three members left the band. Remaining members Jason Wesson and Jason Davis reformed the band with James Yourman (Bass) and Josh Watkins (Guitars) and they released another album entitled "Water" in 1998.

Pour in like a flood
Open the doors of Heaven
Rain down Jesus' blood
Water
The water gives us life
Water
The blood it gives me life
The lyrics to Between Thieves's song "Water" reflect on the powerful symbolism of water and blood in Christianity. The opening lines of "Open the doors of Heaven, pour in like a flood" evoke the imagery of a deluge of divine grace and mercy showering down upon the listener. The repetition of "Open the doors of Heaven" reinforces the idea that this spiritual awakening comes from above, rather than from anything we could achieve on our own. The next lines, "Rain down Jesus' blood," connect this image to the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, which Christians believe made possible the forgiveness of sins and eternal life.
The chorus of the song centers on the importance of both water and blood in the Christian faith. Water is a powerful symbol of cleansing and renewal, and Jesus himself used it in the act of baptism. Here, the water is shown to "give us life" - a transformation that comes from being washed in the love and grace of God. However, it is ultimately the blood of Jesus that "gives me life." This line refers to the central tenet of Christianity - that Jesus willingly gave his life on the cross as a sacrifice for the sin of humanity. By accepting this gift of grace, believers are transformed and given new life.
Overall, "Water" is a powerful song that is deeply rooted in Christian theology. Its lyrics use rich imagery and symbolism to convey the transformative power of God's love and sacrifice.
