After two demo tapes in 1990 and 1991, the band were picked up by French label Adipocere Records, which made possible the band's first two commercial releases, 1993's Up Through the Linear Shades 7" and 1994's Longing For Scarlet Days EP. In 1995, Beyond Dawn released their critically acclaimed full length debut Pity Love on Candlelight Records. Soon after, the band began work on an album intended to be a departure from the doom metal music they were becoming known for, but their record label was less than pleased with the band's drastic change in sound and they were soon in search of a new label. They eventually signed with Misanthropy Records and released Revelry in 1998 to more critical praise. Beyond Dawn eventually resumed work on the would-be 1996 album and, after adding additional material and overdubs, released In Reverie in 1999 on Eibon Records, which would also be reissued in 2005 with two bonus tracks included. During the latter half of 1999, they released Electric Sulking Machine on the Peaceville label, which soon became a favorite amongst fans and remains sought after due to its limited pressing.
Due in part to the limited commercial success of Frysh, the band went on hiatus in 2003 to focus on other projects. Some time later, several tracks from Frysh were remixed by various electronic and EBM artists and released in the form of the double LP We're Down With Species of Any Kind in 2005. The band remains on an indefinite hiatus.

Just As I Am
The Clouds Are Crying
Just As I Am
The Woods Are Shivering
Just As I Am
The Mountains Are Trembling
Just As I Am
And Its Embers Are Dying
Mine Are Not
The lyrics of Beyond Dawn's song "Embers" speak of a person's strong sense of individuality in the face of powerful natural forces. The opening line mentions the howling winds, representing the uncontrollable and unpredictable nature of life. However, the following line states "Just as I am", indicating that the person refuses to be swayed by these forces and remains true to themselves. The clouds are crying, and the woods are shivering, representing sadness and fear, but the person remains steadfast. The mountains tremble, showing how even the most powerful things can be shaken, but the person remains confident. The final line speaks of the falling sun and its dying embers, representing the end of something, but the person's embers are not dying, indicating that they still have the strength to carry on.
Overall, the lyrics of "Embers" are a powerful message of individuality and resilience in the face of adversity. The person refuses to be crushed by the natural forces around them and instead remains true to themselves and their own strength.

I wish more people were able to appreciate this bands unique access to pensive emotions by that brass vehicle so artistically incorporated...
These cats should be more widely revered as a successful musical experiment. unique. original. sincere. a wholly characteristic sound that TOO many bands in either the gothic or metal modes of expression wholly fail to develop...

Celestialhost you don't think more ' doom' than 'black'? his screams don't really constitute as a wail, no guttering, not much of a...mythological interpretation of the world is being iterated...
is beautiful fucking music, but I don't think it's blackened enough anywhere to land a 'Black' tag.
Doom, though, and Gothic for damn sure (for those who insist emotional honesty and mood are better qualifiers for a 'gothic' association than synth beats, colored hair extensions and bondage gear)
