He was considered the "ambassador" of the Favelas ( Brazilian Shanty Towns ). He was the singer of the Malandragem.
Bezerra was knowledgeable about life in the favelas, and the songs he sang are filled with slang terms having to do with drug dealing, the law, etc., and are often humorous. Later in life, not long before his passing, Bezerra gave up this life and became an evangelical Christian.

Olha o boi, olha o boi
Lá vai o boi
Olha o boi, olha o boi
Ela olhou pra minha cara
E riu até cair no chão
Olha o boi, olha o boi
Lá vai o boi
Olha o boi, olha o boi
The lyrics of "Cara de Boi" by Bezerra da Silva delve into themes of identity, perception, and societal expectations. The singer of the song is perplexed by being called a "boi" (bull) by others, questioning whether he truly possesses the appearance or qualities associated with this term. The repetition of the question "Mas será que eu tenho cara de boi?" reflects his confusion and frustration at being labeled in this way without understanding the reasoning behind it.
The lyrics also touch on the singer's marital status, highlighting how his life changed after getting married. Previously without a nickname, he now finds himself constantly targeted and teased by others, further perpetuating the perception of him as a "boi." This shift in perception and treatment after marriage symbolizes the societal pressures and expectations that individuals face based on their relationship status.
As the singer navigates through the taunts and accusations of having a "cara de boi," he expresses a sense of defiance and a need to defend his honor. The mention of confronting a woman who laughed at him and fell to the ground in amusement shows his determination to challenge those who mock or belittle him. This defiance reflects a desire to assert his masculinity and individuality in the face of societal pressures and stereotypes.
Ultimately, the lyrics of "Cara de Boi" suggest a deeper reflection on the complexities of identity, self-perception, and societal judgments. The singer grapples with the implications of being labeled as a "boi" and questions the validity of such assumptions, highlighting the constant struggle to maintain one's sense of self in a world that often seeks to categorize and define individuals based on superficial attributes.
