Pause It and Turn It Up
Biffy Clyro Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All I ask of you is to stick around
express the pain and your sadness
all I ask of you is to turn around
confess a system at work here
words take time to heal
words take time to heal
All I ask of you is to stick around
explain the art of your madness
all I ask is that you've learnt to turn around
confess the system at work here
words take time to heal
words take time to heal
words take time to heal
words take time to heal
I have an idea
about the voices I hear
They're audible to everyone
everyone but me
turn it off
turn it off
turn it off
turn it off
I have an idea
about the voices I hear
they're audible to everyone
everyone but me
turn it off
All i ask of you
All i ask of you
turn it off
All i ask is you
All i ask is you
turn it off x 6 (playing through next verse)
I have an idea
about the voices i hear

they're audible to everyone
everyone but me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Biffy Clyro's "Pause It and Turn It Up" speak to the need for emotional healing and honesty in communication. The singer requests that someone stay present in their pain and express it, acknowledging the difficulty of this task. They further ask that this person confess to the systemic forces that may have contributed to their suffering, indicating a desire to address larger societal issues. The repeated phrase "words take time to heal" emphasizes the importance of taking the necessary time to process and confront painful experiences.

This is so inredible! So much passion. It's so sad that they will (probably) never write anything so beautiful again.

1:48 onwards is just musical art in my opinion

The poem at the end is nothing short of beautiful.

If have to close an album I'd go with: Pause it, Wake Up Dead Man (U2, Pop), Cedars of Lebanon (U2, No Line On The Horizon) and Road Trippin' (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Californication)...4 beautiful lyrics, a full of emotions.

I can't believe I used to not have this on my MP3 player just because of the silence in it. Glad I've cut it up and put it on there now, tis awesome.

the best "last song on an album" ever

Great stuff. Very prog. My only complaint is that it isn't long enough. Know what I mean? I want to hear a full-blown alternative prog epic that is actually 25 minutes long.

Quiet Batperson

I find that a lot of their earlier stuff sounds like prog epics condensed into pop song length. Imagine if Genesis did a five-minute version of Supper's Ready, or if Jethro Tull had tried to squeeze Thick as a Brick into four minutes. If I had a band (which I don't) I would do a version of this song which would be seven minutes at the very least, and maybe incorporate some elements of 9/15ths in the middle.
