The band was originally formed in 1989 by leader Scott Morris. He and Kurt Sodergren are the two "original" members, with the rest of the band joining later on. The band concentrated on the swing of the 1940s and '50s, playing clubs and lounges in their early years.
The band launched two CDs, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Watchu' Want for Christmas? under their own label (Big Bad Records) before getting their big break when their songs "You & Me & The Bottle Makes Three Tonight (Baby)" and "Go Daddy-O" were featured in the 1996 comedy Swingers.
From there they were signed by Capitol Records. With Capitol the band released Americana Deluxe (also known as a second Big Bad Voodoo Daddy) and This Beautiful Life. The band has continued their tours, performances and album releases Save My Soul, Live, and Everything You Want For Christmas, with one high point being their appearance at the 1999 Super Bowl half-time show.
Over the last few years, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy has experienced great success playing on the Pops programs of American Symphony Orchestras and regular US tours.
Most recently, BBVD released a tribute album titled How Big Can You Get?: The Music of Cab Calloway. As part of the live concerts promoting this recent album, the band continues to perform new material, including the track "5-10-15 Times I Love You" which frontman Scotty Morris says will be recorded as part of a new album in early 2011.

I’ll be bangin’ bone music on a garbage can
When this cat named pip with a vital tip, said
“You better watchit jack, cause there’s a girl on your back”
But as a general rule I tend to play things cool
So I stroll throught the bar to my favorite stool
When she approached me so devilishly an said
“Your music jack , makes me go insane”
I said oh’ yeah (oh yeah )
I said oh my my ( oh my my)
She says "The big bad music….. makes me go insane!”
I said I’ve got nine lives she says’ I’m sly like a cat
From the tip of my shoes to the top of my hat
As I flip down my collar and I straighten out my tie
She says “I really did you man”, as she looked me in the eye
I said “baby you must see you could never be
The only one hangin’ out with me “
You see I got no plans
She said “ my oh my, step back and let me try!”
I said oh’ yeah (oh yeah )
I said oh my my ( oh my my )
She says "the big bad music, makes me go insane!”
Now friends my story is far from over
Like an alley cat with a four leaf clover
The life I live is the life for me with no regrets and love for free
But now back to the girl that I meet in the bar
Now we’re rollin' down in a big black car
As she rolls up the window & she pulls back the top
She says “hang on jack I’m about to pop”
The lyrics of "Oh Yeah" by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy tell a story of a musician who plays bone music on a garbage can in a bar until early morning. As he sits on his favorite stool, a girl approaches him and tells him that his music drives her crazy. The musician tries to play it cool but the girl persists, saying that she wants to spend time with him. The musician agrees, and they start rolling down in a big black car, with the girl starting to get frisky.
The song has a catchy beat and upbeat swing, which is typical of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy's style. The lyrics paint a picture of a fun, carefree, and slightly rebellious lifestyle, marked by jazz-infused music and the company of interesting women. The singer of the song is a bit of a devil-may-care character, who lives life on his own terms and enjoys the company of women who appreciate his music and adventurous spirit.
Overall, "Oh Yeah" is a song that celebrates the joys of being a musician and a free spirit, as well as the excitement and spontaneity of romance.
