When I first heard Big Head Todd's version of Boom Boom I thought "Great. ZZ Top has finally recorded a truly great cover of a Blues classic." Most of the current guitar stars are too wanky. They overplay. Too much overdrive and too many overly busy riffs. With Blues you need to talk the notes. Take time to bend and be clean enough to not obscure the sound of the vibrating strings. Big Head Todd has the perception and self discipline to play expressively that makes him the most expressive Blues guitarist I have heard in decades. I hope he does great versions of other classics.
