But that lucky old sun has nothin' to do
But roll around heaven all day
Fuss with my woman toil for my kids
Sweat 'til I'm wrinkled and gray
While that lucky old sun has nothin' to do
But roll around heaven all day
Tears all in my eyes
Send down that cloud with a silver linin'
Lift me to paradise
Show me that river
Take me across and wash all my troubles away
Like that lucky old sun, give me nothin' to do
But roll around heaven all day
Up in the mornin' out on the job,
Work like the devil for my pay
But that lucky old sun has nothin' to do
But roll around heaven all day
Fuss with my woman toil for my kids
Sweat 'til I'm wrinkled and gray
While that lucky old sun has nothin' to do
But roll around heaven all day
Good Lawd above, can't you know I'm pinin'
Tears all in my eyes
Send down that cloud with a silver linin'
Lift me to paradise
Show me that river
Take me across and wash all my troubles away
Like that lucky old sun, give me nothin' to do
But roll around heaven all day
The song "All The Day Long" by Bill & Gloria Gaither tells the story of a tired and worn-out worker who is envious of the sun's easy life. Despite working hard to provide for his family, the worker is left feeling unfulfilled and burdened by his responsibilities. He longs for a break and to be taken away from all his troubles. He feels hopeless and pleads with the Lord above to lift him to paradise, to show him that river and take him across to wash all his troubles away.
The lyrics of the song express themes of tiredness, despair, and a longing for something better. It speaks to the human condition of feeling stuck in one's circumstances and desiring a better life. The worker in the song is a relatable character, and the lyrics highlight the struggles that many people face in their daily lives. The song is a reminder that despite the difficulties of life, hope and redemption are possible.
