I beg your pardon
I never promised you a rose garden
Along with the sunshine
There's gonna be a little rain sometime
When you think you gotta give live and let live
Or let go oh
I never promised you a rose garden
I could promise you things like big diamond rings
But you won't find roses growin' on a stalk of clover
So you better think it over
With a sweet talkin' you
If I could make it come true
I would give you the world right now on a silver platter
But what would it matter
So smile for a while and let's be jolly Life
Shouldn't be so melancholy Come along and
Share the good times while we can
[Chorus]
I could sing you a tune and promise you the moon
But if that's what it takes to hold you I'd just soon let you go
But there's one thing you ought to know
You better look before you leap, still waters run deep
And there won't always be someone there
To pull you out so you know what I'm talkin' about
So smile for a while and let's be jolly
Life shouldn't be so melancholy
Come along and share the good times while we can
I beg your pardon
I never promised you a rose garden
Along with the sunshine there`s going to be a little rain sometimes
The song "In the Garden" by Bill & Gloria Gaither features the chorus, "I beg your pardon, I never promised you a rose garden. Along with the sunshine, there's gonna be a little rain sometime. When you think you gotta give live and let live or let go, oh, I beg your pardon." The song's meaning is about the reality of relationships and life, that there will be both good times and bad times. The lyrics express that the singer cannot promise luxuries like diamonds or that life will always be rosy, but encourages the listener to enjoy the good moments as they come.
The phrase "I never promised you a rose garden" is actually a well-known idiom and was first used as the title of a book by psychiatrist Joanne Greenberg in 1964, which later became a movie in 1977. The book and movie deal with a young woman's experience with schizophrenia and the phrase is used to represent the idea that life is not always easy or perfect. The phrase is now commonly used to express the idea that one cannot expect everything to be perfect.

Being a person who struggles with anxiety, I have found that having a habit of just consistently talking to God and saying, โYou know what? I feel my heart is beating really fast and I donโt really know why Iโm worried right now, but You know, and so please help.'โ

My all time favorit "Oakridge Boys". In 1979 I had in my old country Czechoslovakia one cassette of this group. It had value more than gold. Oakridge Boys were so beloved ther. Then, I defected from that country of communist dictatorship, and in october 1982 I came to Canada, my new home. Praise the Lord!! Following every Homecoming of Bill Gather, I enjoyed every singer, many times with tears in my eyes. Tears of joy. Yes, Cathedrals are in heaven, Goodmans are in heaven, I am all gray. One day we all will be where "Joy unspeakable and full of glory" is. Glory, what a day that will be !!

A grand old Gospel song presented by a special group, "The Oak Ridge Boys". I can remember singing it in church in a quartet just after WW2 with my Dad, brother and a cousin. Thanks so much for the captions so the deaf and hard of hearing can see the lyrics we all hear. God bless you all. Lyn Lockrey, Australia.
