Never forget that when Bill and the Comets did their tour of Europe in '58 there were riots. The kids went crazy for American rock and roll. Bill Haley will always be a bit of a hero to me.

In fact their first single "Love Me Do" was released in late 1962.

WoW how good was that, even the oldies could feel the beat, from as early as 1951 Bill Halley is with out a doubt, the father of rock n roll, when rock around the clock, was played in the movie theatre, everyone went wild, yes Elvis is easily the King of Rock n roll, but bill Halley, with the aid, of the Electric guitar, started the craze.

After having a few hits in the early 1950s playing a new time of music they recorded rock around the clock in 1954 it was a minor hit, it was shake rattle and roll release in mid 1954 and making the billboard top 10 and entering the UK charts late 1954 and peaking in the top 10 in early 1955 which established them as major hit maker's.
Hence the reason why rock around the clock was chosen for the movie and subsequently reissued, they were a big name at the time..
They released their first album in 1955 called " shake rattle and roll" to cash in on Thier newley found major popularity, " Rock around the clock and a few of their other minor hits" were on this album.
The album was subsequently reissued 6 months later and retitled " rock around the clock"
Featuring exactly the same songs in the same order and the same album cover but with a title change.
Due to the massive sales of rock around the clock, many in the music world forget it wasn't Thier first major breakthrough hit..
And subsequent historians write innacurate things and it just gets regurgitated over and over with little fact checking, granted it did all happen over a relatively short span of time and many people of the time get confused..
But rock around the clock was only a minor hit first time around, shake rattle and roll became Thier big breakthrough international hit, Allowing for rock around the clock to be reissued
