In the rock (and roll) community, Bill Monroe may be best known via one of Elvis Presley's earliest recordings at Sun Records, that of Monroe's 'Blue Moon of Kentucky'. Patsy Cline also made a highly regarded version of this song.
This World Is Not My Home
Bill Monroe Lyrics

This world is not my home
I? m just a passin? through
My pleasure and my hope
Are placed beyond the blue
Many friends and kindreds
Has gone on before
In this world anymore
Oh Lord, you know
I have no friend like you
If heaven? s not my home
Oh Lord, what will i do
Angels beacon me
To heavens open door
And i cant feel at home
In this world anymore
Oh in glory land
There? ll be no dying there
The saints all shouting victory
And singing everywhere
I hear the voice of them
That? s gone on before
And i cant feel at home
In this world anymore
Oh Lord, you know
I have no friend like you
If heaven? s not my home
Oh Lord, what will i do
Angels beacon me
To heavens open door
And i cant feel at home
In this world anymore
Heavens expecting me
That? s one thing i know
I fixed it up with Jesus
A long time ago
He would take me through
Though i am weak and poor
And i cant feel at home
In this world anymore
Oh Lord, you know
I have no friend like you
If heaven? s not my home
Oh Lord, what will i do
Angels beacon me
To heavens open door
And i cant feel at home
In this world anymore?
The song "This World is Not My Home" by Bill Monroe speaks to the idea that this earth is not our ultimate home, that we are just passing through as we make our journey toward our eternal home in heaven. The Bluegrass legend reminds us that our hope is not in our material possessions nor our current state of personal and social affairs. The message encourages us to focus on the promises of heaven, where there is no sorrow, no pain, and no heartache.
The lyrics reveal the heart of a believer who knows that this world is not perfect and not meant to be our permanent dwelling. Rather than being distressed by the current state of this world, the believer sees it as a temporary sojourn and looks forward to the eternal home in heaven. The song reminds believers that they have a friend in Jesus who will lead them through the hardships of this world and take them to a place where they will be forever at home.
Overall, "This World is Not My Home" is an uplifting and encouraging song that speaks to the eternal hope of every believer who has entrusted their life to Jesus Christ. It reminds us that no matter what challenges we face in this world, they should not cause us to be discouraged, but rather to find hope and comfort in the promise of eternal life.
