Constantly working, Ryder-Jones has also racked up production credits for other bands, including The Wytches, Hooton Tennis Club and the underrated group By The Sea, whose frontman Liam Power is also part of Ryder-Jones’s live set-up. Last month saw the release of Ryder-Jones’s accomplished third album, West Kirby County Primary: with tracks Two to Birkenhead and Satellites preceding the album’s arrival, the sound on this record is louder and fuzzier in parts, but with the bare bones of sincerity he’s increasingly becoming well known for. Think 1990s grunge via Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci and Super Furry Animals, mashed with the influence of the land spanning the Dee Estuary.

WILD ROSES
Bill Ryder-Jones Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
'Cause fortune favours every body but me
Taking every single piss
Turning stories into beautiful truths
Not that it matters to me
But now it seems so clear
Because the roses near
Wild roses, give me something
All I know is, the wild roses
Good things take too long
At last it comes, but then it's gone
Just like a rose left in the sun
Wild roses, give me something
All I know is, the wild roses
Wild roses, they give me something
All I know is, the wild roses
Wild roses, they give me something
All I know is, I love wild roses
Yeah all I know is
I love wild roses
Yeah all I know is
I love the wild roses
The first verse of "Wild Roses" describes an individual who has missed out on their opportunity for a fulfilling relationship or life experience because fate seems to favor everyone except for them. This sense of frustration is highlighted by the use of the phrase "taking every single piss," which suggests that life is treating them unfairly. Despite this, the singer can't help but turn their stories into beautiful truths, regardless of how others may perceive the situation. However, this doesn't seem to matter anymore, as everything becomes clear when they are in the presence of wild roses.
The chorus repeats the phrase "Wild roses, give me something," emphasizing that the singer is searching for a positive force in their life amidst the disappointment and frustration they feel. They understand that good things may take a long time to arrive, and when they finally do, they tend to vanish as quickly as they came, like a rose wilting in the sun. Despite this, the wild roses give them something that they desperately need, and they resolve to love them for it.
Overall, "Wild Roses" conveys a sense of resignation towards fate and the struggles of life. However, amidst this, there is a glimmer of hope as the wild roses provide a source of comfort and beauty that can brighten even the darkest of days.
