Spears moved from Texas to Nashville in 1964. She earned a Capitol Records contract in 1968. Her first hit was 1969's "Mr. Walker, It's All Over."
Spears won country fans over with her tough, bluesy style; however, it was not until 1975's "Blanket on the Ground" that she broke through to major stardom. The song hit number one on the country charts in the United States. The song did well in the United Kingdom, as well; the song climbed into the top five in the pop hits there.
Spears' followed up "Blanket on the Ground" with the top ten "What I've Got In Mind." "What I've Got in Mind" did even better in the United Kingdom, turning out to be a second top 5 British hit for her across the sea.
Spears had successes with "Misty Blue," "'57 Chevrolet," "Love Ain't Gonna Wait For Us," "If You Want Me," and others. 1981's remake of Tammy Wynette's 1960s hit, "Your Good Girl's Gonna Go Bad," was Spear's last voyage into America's country top 20.
Her Greatest Hits album was a top 10 best seller, and furthered her fan base.
By the mid-1980s, her success in the United States had tapered off. However, she retained a following in the U.K., recording a number of albums for the British market that had limited or no release in America. This level of fame in Britain was summed up by the the magazine entitled Country Music People during the 1990s when an article described Spears as "The Queen Mother of Country music."
In 2005, Spears released the album "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry".
You Never Can Tell

You could see that pierre did truly love the mademoiselle
And now the young monsieur and madame have rung the chapel bell,
Cest la vie, say the old folks, it go to show you never can tell
They furnished off an apartment with a two room roebuck sale
The coolerator was crammed with tv dinners and ginger ale,
But when pierre found work, the little money comin worked out well
Cest la vie, say the old folks, it go to show you never can tell
Seven hundred little records, all rock, and rhythm and jazz
But when the sun went down, the rapid tempo of the music fell
Cest la vie, say the old folks, it go to show you never can tell
They bought a souped-up jitney, was a cherry red 53,
Drove down to new orleans to celebrate the anniversary
It was there where pierre was married to the lovely mademoiselle
Cest la vie, say the old folks, it go to show you never can tell
They had a teenage wedding, and the old folks wished them well
You could see that pierre did truly love the mademoiselle
And now the young monsieur and madame have rung the chapel bell,
Cest la vie, say the old folks, it go to show you never can tell
Cest la vie, say the old folks, it go to show you never can tell
Cest la vie, say the old folks, it go to show you never can tell
The song "You Never Can Tell" by Billie Jo Spears is a joyous celebration of love and marriage. It tells the story of a young couple who gets married against the wishes of their elders. Despite the difficulties they face in the early days of their marriage, they manage to make it work and build a life together. The chorus, "C'est la vie, say the old folks, it go to show you never can tell," serves as a reminder that life is unpredictable and we never know what the future holds.
The first verse describes the couple's wedding day and the support they receive from their peers, although the old folks are skeptical. The second verse talks about the young couple's struggle to make ends meet in their first apartment, but they manage to find joy in the simple things. The third verse talks about their love of music and how it brings them closer together. Finally, the last verse describes their trip to New Orleans to celebrate their anniversary and how they prove their doubters wrong by creating a happy life together.
Overall, the song celebrates the power of love to overcome adversity and build a happy life together. It also reminds us that life is unpredictable and we should cherish the moments we have.
