The world ahead
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadow
To the edge of night
Until the stars are all alight
Mist and shadow
All shall fade
All shall
Fade
The lyrics to Billy Boyd's song "Edge of Night" are poetic and full of meaning. The first verse sets the scene for a journey, with the mention of "home" being behind and the "world ahead." The singer acknowledges that there are "many paths to tread" but isn't deterred by the possible uncertainties he may face along the way. The phrase "through shadow" could represent obstacles, challenges or even doubts. Whatever these shadows may be, they will be overcome until the traveler reaches the edge of night where the stars will be "all alight." This may signify the end of his journey or even the achievement of his goal.
The second verse seems to suggest a sense of impending doom as the mention of "mist and shadow" brings forth an ominous atmosphere. The repetition of "all shall fade" emphasizes the inevitability of change and loss. It is a reminder that nothing is permanent, that life is fragile, and things will eventually come to an end. Even though this may seem like a depressing thought, the tone of the song suggests that we should appreciate life, with all its beauty and flaws. We should embrace our journey, and not be afraid of the unknown. The song speaks to our inner adventurer, urging us to explore the world around us, to live in the present, and to chase our dreams until the end.
