Canadian Sunset
Billy Vaughn & His Orchestra Lyrics

So lonely and then
You came, out of nowhere
Like the sun up from the hills
Cold, cold was the wind
Warm, warm were your lips
Out there, on that ski trail
A weekend in Canada, a change of scene
Was the most I bargained for
And then I discovered you and in your eyes
I found the love that I couldn't ignore
Down, down came the sun
Fast, fast, fast, beat my heart
I knew when the sun set
From that day, we'd never ever part
The song "Canadian Sunset" by Billy Vaughn & His Orchestra is a melancholic yet romantic tune that talks about a love that unexpectedly blooms amidst loneliness. The opening lines say, "Once I was alone, so lonely and then, you came out of nowhere, like the sun up from the hills." These lines depict how the singer's life was once void of love and companionship, then suddenly a person appeared and changed everything, just like how the sun's arrival can illuminate everything around it. The second stanza, "Cold, cold was the wind, warm, warm were your lips, out there, on that ski trail, where your kiss filled me with thrills," talks about a moment on a ski trail where the singer and his lover shared a kiss. The contrast between the cold wind and the warm kiss signifies that the singer's heart was cold before but was warmed up by the love that came his way.
The chorus talks about how the singer went on a trip to Canada, not expecting anything life-changing to happen, but it was where he found love. "A weekend in Canada, a change of scene was the most I bargained for, and then I discovered you, and in your eyes, I found the love that I couldn't ignore." This line expresses the idea that love can come when we least expect it and often in the most unexpected places. The closing stanza "Down, down came the sun, fast, fast, fast beat my heart, I knew when the sun set, from that day, we'd never ever part," talks about the singer's realization that his life will never be the same again because of the love he found. The sunset represents the end of something and the beginning of something new, in this case, a new chapter in the singer's life with his newfound love.

Once I was alone
I was lonely once
So lonely and then
My loneliness was intense
You came, out of nowhere
Your arrival was sudden and unexpected
Like the sun up from the hills
You shone on me and brightened up my life
Cold, cold was the wind
The weather was freezing
Warm, warm were your lips
Your kiss was passionate and comforting
Out there, on that ski trail
We were skiing in the great outdoors
Where your kiss filled me with thrills
Your kiss excited me
A weekend in Canada, a change of scene
I went on a short trip to Canada for a break
Was the most I bargained for
I didn't expect to find anything more
And then I discovered you and in your eyes
But I met you and saw something special in you
I found the love that I couldn't ignore
I fell in love with you and couldn't resist it
Down, down came the sun
The sun set and it started to get dark
Fast, fast, fast, beat my heart
My heart was pounding with excitement

From that day, we'd never ever part
That we were meant to be together forever

It came to me this evening. I was just four years old. My family was parked somewhere where there was water and the sun was going down, and this tune was playing on the radio. So I went to trusty Utube and here it is. Thank you for putting it up. As I grow older, I certainly have grown fonder of these older orchestrasions. I am going to pay more attention to Billy Vaughn's work after this.

Always loved this song. I would bug my dad for a quarter to feed the jukebox in a neighborhood bar we'd stop at after a day of fishing in Canarsie. Also enjoy Andy Williams singing it.
