To date, almost all of the band's shows have featured special guests such as Robert Randolph and Kreutzmann's former Grateful Dead bandmate Bob Weir. Sometimes these guests sit in for a song or two and other times they accompany the group for an entire set or show.

Billy and the Kids Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Bring it down bring it down I'm out of town sleeping fine sleeping fine I won't wake up dreaming of you and I
I don't want to break down I won't cry bring it back to life so he won't die I don't want to tear your heart apart but I don't want to keep your love inside*2
You don't wanna be broken you don't want to be left alone I don't want to be broken hoping I don't get left alone
Took your heart it was broken I take it back every word I said*2
In these lyrics, Billy and the Kids convey a sense of emotional turmoil and internal struggle. The line "Breathing fire for the night" suggests a state of intense passion or anger. It implies a desire to let go and express these conflicting emotions fully. However, the following lines "Bring it down bring it down I'm out of town sleeping fine" indicate a contrasting need for distance and detachment. The singer is trying to find peace and solace away from the chaos they feel inside.
The phrase "I won't wake up dreaming of you and I" suggests a desire to move on from a past relationship or a specific person. It implies a determination to separate oneself from the memories and emotions associated with that individual. The singer wants to find a state of contentment where thoughts of this person no longer consume their mind.
The lines "I don't want to break down I won't cry bring it back to life so he won't die" show the singer's determination to salvage a relationship. They don't want it to end or to lose the love they share with this person. However, there is also a fear of causing harm, as indicated by "I don't want to tear your heart apart...but I don't want to keep your love inside." This suggests a struggle between wanting to hold onto the love and not wanting to cause pain, leaving the singer in a difficult and conflicted position.
The following section speaks to the fear of being broken and left alone. It suggests a fear of vulnerability and the possibility of being abandoned emotionally. The repetition of "you don't wanna be broken" implies a mutual understanding between the singer and the subject of the song. Both parties have experienced emotional pain and want to avoid it in the future.
The line "I don't wanna be open I get around like I won't come back" portrays a sense of guardedness and self-preservation. The singer is afraid to open themselves up fully because they fear getting hurt or losing themselves. They have distanced themselves from emotional attachments, becoming more transient and less likely to invest deeply in relationships.
The final lines "Took your heart it was broken I take it back every word I said" indicate remorse and an attempt at reconciliation. The singer acknowledges the pain they have caused in the past and expresses a desire to make amends. They want to retract the hurtful words spoken and repair the broken heart. It shows a willingness to take responsibility for their actions and move towards healing and forgiveness.
Overall, these lyrics reflect a struggle with intense emotions, the fear of being hurt, and a longing for love and connection. Through the conflicting sentiments expressed, the singer aims to find a balance between self-protection and maintaining meaningful relationships.

I agree. These guys will be forced to tour together next year or something. I really hope it doesn't change the trajectory of Billy though...with the rest of his band. I love them so much. I'll admit though, this is magic.
