God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
Bing Crosby & Frank Sinatra Lyrics

Let nothing you dismay
Remember Christ our Savior
Was born on Christmas Day
To save us all from Satan's power
When we were gone astray
(Oh tidings of comfort and joy)
In Bethlehem in Jewry
This blessed Babe was born
And laid within a manger
Upon this blessed morn
The which His Mother Mary
Did nothing take in scorn
(O tidings of comfort and joy)
(Comfort and joy o tidings of comfort and joy)
From God our Heavenly Father
A blessed Angel came
And unto certain shepherds
Brought tidings of the same
How that in Bethlehem was born
The Son of God by name
(O tidings of comfort and joy)
(Comfort and joy, O tidings of comfort and joy)
The lyrics to "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" expresses the joy and hope that comes with the birth of Christ. It encourages people to be merry and not to be dismayed, for Christ was born on Christmas day to save lost souls from Satan's power. By His birth, people can be comforted and have hope.
The song then narrates the circumstances surrounding Christ's birth. He was born in Bethlehem and laid in a manger, and even though His mother Mary was of lowly status, she accepted the baby Jesus without any scorn. The song then tells of how an angel brought the news of the birth of the Son of God to some shepherds in Bethlehem. The song ultimately highlights how the news of the birth of Christ brought hope and joy to those who received it, and this is something that believers can still resonate with today.

@Puppy Overlord no, I think he means 19th. That's what's being portrayed here. Look at those top hats. Early 1800s I'd say...

@L. M. Bogdanowicz Yea I think you’re right actually. I did a bit of research and the full episode (from the Frank Sinatra Show)’s aesthetic was inspired by mixes of Victorian era London and 1950’s bachelor, so I guess we’re both right lol :)
