Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
Bing Crosby Frank Sinatra & Nat King Cole Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hark, the herald angels sing
Glory to the new born King
Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled

Joyful all ye nations rise
Join the triumph of the skies
With the angelic host proclaim
Christ is born in Bethlehem

Hark, the herald angels sing
Glory to the new born King

Hail the Heaven born, Prince of peace
Hail the Son of righteousness
Light and life to all He brings
Risen with healing in His wings

Mild He lays His glory by
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth
Born to give them second birth

Hark, the herald angels sing
Glory to the new born King

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, and Nat King Cole's "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" is a joyful proclamation of the birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem. The carol begins with the proclamation of the angels, heralding the arrival of Jesus Christ, the newborn king. It is a time for celebration and reflection, as the birth of Jesus marks a new beginning for humankind.

The second verse of the carol calls upon all nations to join in the triumph of the skies and proclaim the birth of Christ. The third verse refers to Jesus as the heaven-born prince of peace and the son of righteousness. He brings light and life to all, and through his resurrection, he offers healing to those who believe in him.

The fourth and final verse speaks about the sacrifice that Jesus made when he came to earth. He laid aside his glory and was born as a human, so that he could die for the sins of the world. By rising from the dead, he offers eternal life to those who accept him as their savior. The carol concludes with a repetition of the angels' message, calling all to join in the celebration of the newborn king.

I’ve listened to the album this song is apart of for all the 20 years I’ve lived. I’m not religious at all. But it is still my favourite Christmas song from the collection by far. There is a simple majesty to Frank’s voice
