"I described the sound to the musicians as my mushroom album: tree roots and mycelium spreading deep into the soil."
The title is a feminine adaptation that Björk got from the Latin word “fossor” and means “she who digs” [into the ground].

For millions of years we've been ejecting our spores

Her fossorial claw digs downwards, dissolves old pain
Dug down to rot, decomposes debris
Degrades sorrows, hair and hooves

At last
We stayed in one place long enough (fossora)
To shoot down deep hyphae roots (fossora, fossora, fossora)
That penetrate concrete and plastic (fossora, fossora, fossora)
Even though the ground is burnt underneath monumental growth (fossora, fossora, fossora)
Fossora (fossora, fossora)
In Björk's song "Fossora," she sings about the power of nature and the resilience of life. The lyrics depict the way that life spreads and grows like spores released into the air, and how it can dig deep into the ground to find roots even in harsh and difficult conditions. Björk starts by describing the spread of nerves like wings at a mushroom's speed, showing how life can expand rapidly and take on a life of its own. The spores are everywhere, and she uses the word "fossora" as a kind of incantation or refrain, emphasizing the power of this force of nature.
As the song progresses, Björk describes how life has been spreading and growing for millions of years, casting out spores like seedlings and sprouts that take root and grow into new life. The fossorial claw she mentions is a metaphor for the way that life can dig down deep into the earth to find nourishment and support. It can break down old pain and sorrows, decomposing debris and creating space for new growth to happen. Even in the face of difficult conditions, like burnt and harsh earth, life finds a way to grow and thrive.
Overall, "Fossora" is a song about the indomitable nature of growth and the power of life to persist in the face of obstacles. Björk's use of metaphors, incantations, and refrains helps to create a sense of the power and energy of this force of nature.

it seems like we are entering a mushroom era, not only in Björk's universe but in the whole world as well
@gordon1124

@auroraborealis6398
@@gordon1124 I hope too haha! seems like a coincidence but I discovered mushrooms last year, and medical research and mental health practitionners are starting to consider its properties very seriously even in my country now, so... I don't know, we'll see what happens!
@jotaguerraache9201

@Kelescope
If I'd have known I could legally guide my parents through mushroom trips someday I would have stayed in school 😂 jk not really
@koalakultofficial
Melanie Martinez also having a new aesthetic which incorporates mushrooms?
@LoonOnTheBathub
I've heard many people complaining about the new albums and being nostalgic about the old björk but i think the old björk would love this
@mildred298
Righttttt, if anything this album reminds me a lot of her Utopia album which might not be old but pretty much proves she didn’t change her vibes completely lol. She’s very experimental and has been known to be from day one. Idk why people are surprised.
@azyk100
Not surprised, for more than 20 years now. RIP Björk from Debut to Vespertine (cause for us she died just after this last good album)@@mildred298
@normalabelle1513
