Cocoon
Björk & Paul Dye Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Who would have known
That a boy like him
Would have entered me lightly
Restoring my blisses

Who would have known
That a boy like him
After sharing my core
Would stay going nowhere

Who would have known
A beauty this immense
Who would have known
A saintly trance
Who would have known
Miraculous breath
To inhale a beard
Loaded with courage

Who would have known
That a boy like him
Possessed of magical
Sensitivity
Who would approach a girl like me
Who caresses cradles his head
In her bosom

He slides inside
Half awake, half asleep
We faint back
Into sleephood
When I wake up
The second time
In his arms
Gorgeousness
He's still inside me

Who would have known
Who ah
Who would have known

A train of pearls
Cabin by cabin
Is shot precisely
Across an ocean

From a mouth
From a
From the mouth
Of a girl like me
To a boy

To a boy
To a boy

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Björk and Paul Dye's song Cocoon are rich in meaning, evoking themes of vulnerability, intimacy, and transcendence. The first three stanzas of the song speak to the unexpectedness of a relationship and the powerful impact it can have on one's life. The lyrics begin with the lines "Who would have known/That a boy like him/Would have entered me lightly/Restoring my blisses." This can be interpreted as a reference to the transformative power of a relationship and how a person's touch or presence can restore one's sense of joy or fulfillment. The repeated line "Who would have known" highlights the surprise and wonder of this connection.

The next two stanzas further explore the complexities of this relationship, describing the lover as possessing "magical sensitivity" and the singer as being surprised that someone like her could attract such a person. The line "He slides inside/Half awake, half asleep/We faint back/Into sleephood" speaks to the sensual and dreamy nature of the connection, while the final line "He's still inside me" can be read as a metaphor for being deeply penetrated by another person's presence or spirit.

The final stanza is perhaps the most enigmatic, consisting of the lines "A train of pearls/Cabin by cabin/Is shot precisely/Across an ocean/From a mouth/From a/From the mouth/Of a girl like me/To a boy/To a boy/To a boy." This section can be understood as a symbol of communication, with the "train of pearls" representing a string of words or ideas that are communicated from one person to another. The repetition of the phrase "To a boy" emphasizes the gender dynamics at play in the relationship, and the final line "From a mouth/From a/From the mouth/Of a girl like me" could be seen as a feminist assertion of voice and agency.

I can’t help but feel so sad for her, I am sure she is a lovely sweet and beautiful girl and has just had her entire world, her life and her thoughts manipulated by this horrific disease. She breaks my heart.

@angelxbunny

i get so sad seeing this because she looked so bright and lively when she came back from getting help and it’s all gone again

@haruhi3284

Yeah it's cause she was realizing and becoming articulate. Her mom doesn't want that because she doesn't want her source of income leaving. Sad. Her mom manipulated her yet again to get her way because if you watch when she comes from rehab she realizes things and acknowledges her ed. Then later on she says she doesn't and that her "friends" are monsters that they never wanted to help her but break her down. So many red flags/alarming things from old clips and stuff as well that shows that Jackie and them were right of her mom.

@jessicaleigh4521

Shane’s Interview with her like straight out of rehab wasn’t a good idea he should have just let it be

@pennywisethedancingclown4024

I blame Shane for that. He pushed her so hard to get the scoop and wanted her to basically disclose everything about treatment. You could see she was clearly uncomfortable on video with her body being shown (even though she looked amazing). What she really needed was time away from social media to get more solid in her recovery and Shane interfered.
