Disappear
Bjørn Riis Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Way out in the field you hear her voice
With the sun in her hair, she calls your name
Never leave you out of sight
She keeps her baby to herself
And in the safety of her arms
You gaze into your future
In a box under your bed you keep your memories
And all the great ideas you stole from someone else
Never knowing how to feel, what to say or do
You pretend and make believe
Here it comes again, you′re being paralysed
And it feels just like, your head is about to burst

Don't wanna breathe or stay awake no more
So you′re closing down and disappear

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Bjørn Riis's song Disappear describe a person's struggle with their own thoughts, memories, and feelings. The imagery of a field with a woman's voice and the sun in her hair creates a sense of a peaceful, idyllic setting, yet the singer is being pulled in many different directions. The woman represents a sense of security and comfort, yet she keeps her baby to herself, indicating that the singer may feel isolated and alone. The line "You gaze into your future" implies that the singer is unsure of what their future holds, and perhaps they feel directionless.

The second verse describes the singer's attempt to cope with their confusion by compartmentalizing their memories and ideas, but they still don't know how to feel or act. The line "you pretend and make believe" suggests that the singer is putting on a facade, perhaps for the benefit of others, while inside they are struggling to deal with their own thoughts and emotions. The chorus describes a moment of intense anxiety, where the singer feels paralyzed and overwhelmed. The final line, "So you're closing down and disappear", suggests the singer is seeking to escape their turmoil by withdrawing from the world.

Overall, the lyrics of Disappear offer a poignant portrayal of the difficulty of dealing with one's own inner struggles and the desire to retreat from the world when it all becomes too much.

There is not a single song from Airbag or Bjorn Riis that I don't like. I can listen to their music all day and don't get bored. My 1 year old daughter falls deeply in sleep with these "lullabies" after listening to at least 3 songs in complete silence and calm. It's just awesome how it brings all the best feelings to a flow, and if you combine a high quality sound, feeling & passion for the music, and doing it while looking at my daughter immerse to the music and falling a sleep in my arms.... There is no better way to describe "Magic". Love these guys, can't wait for their new album to come out.

Norweigen Bjorn Riis is also a main player in the outstanding band "Airbag", also based in Norway. It is all so very mesmerizing indeed!

This has to be one of the most beautiful and haunting songs ever written by anybody, anywhere- ever, wonderfully played

compliments to Bjorn! excellent album. even better than airbag.

@parzooman

I find this music wonderfully melancholy. However, it is a pastiche albeit a good one of Steven Wilson's style. I find it quite remarkable that he's able to capture Wilson's writing style as if he's channeling him. That said, the quality is actually on par with Wilson's work.
