To Take a Piece
Black Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I want you,
For everything you do,
You do
To take a piece.
I need you,
I need you,
'cause everything you do
To take a piece.
You're my find
But I'll take my time
Until your eyes
Have dimmed from hot
To soft and mellow.
You tease me
To please me.
Like everything you do,
You do
To take a piece.
You are like a team,
A vixen queen.
You turn my spine
From diamond hard
To soft and yellow.
And I want you,
I want you,
For everything you do,
You do
To take a piece.
Everything you do,
You do
To take a piece.
For everything you do,
You do
To take a piece.
The lyrics to "To Take a Piece" by Black are about a person who is deeply infatuated with someone else and wants to take a piece of them. The repetition of "I want you" and "I need you" emphasizes the longing this person feels towards their lover. The use of the phrase "to take a piece" could be interpreted in a few different ways, but it seems to suggest that they want to possess a part of their lover, whether that be their physical body or a part of their emotional self.
The singer describes their lover as someone who can turn their "spine from diamond hard to soft and yellow," suggesting that they have a strong effect on them. The singer is willing to take their time with this person, waiting until their "eyes have dimmed from hot to soft and mellow." This could be interpreted as the singer wanting their lover to develop deeper feelings for them or become more vulnerable and open emotionally.
