Goodbye Says It All
BlackHawk Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's another back-door sneakin' in
Where you been? Midnight
Quiet as a Mack Truck-Lotsa luck
Thinkin' up an alibi
But every light in the house is on
Everything is gone

She's left me no chance at redemption
No further exemption
Just a big red "Goodbye" in lipstick on the wall
Goodbye says it all
No long explanation
No reconciliation
No let's-talk-it-over number I can call
Goodbye says it all
Goodbye

She could have thrown a knock-down
Scream-and-shout
Have-it-out tirade
She could have made it real tough
Bringing up
All the hell that I raised
But no more wasted words on me
No, she kept it short and sweet

She's left me no chance at redemption
No further exemption
Just a big red "Goodbye" in lipstick on the wall
Goodbye says it all
No long explanation
No reconciliation
No let's-talk-it-over number I can call
Goodbye says it all
Goodbye

No more wasted words on me
No, she kept it short and sweet

She's left me no chance at redemption
No further exemption
Just a big red "Goodbye" in lipstick on the wall
Goodbye says it all
No long explanation
No reconciliation
No let's-talk-it-over number I can call

Goodbye says it all
Goodbye

Overall Meaning

In BlackHawk's song "Goodbye Says It All," the singer reflects on the end of a relationship where his partner has left him, leaving no room for reconciliation. The lyrics describe the singer's attempts to come up with an alibi and make excuses for his actions, only to realize that his partner has already left, with all of her belongings gone from the house. He notes that she could have screamed and shouted, but instead chose to leave a red "Goodbye" in lipstick on the wall, leaving no room for further discussion.

The lyrics are a commentary on the finality of a breakup, particularly when one partner has been unfaithful or otherwise broken trust in the relationship. The use of the word "red" to describe the lipstick on the wall could also be interpreted as a symbol of anger, passion, or both. The repetition of the phrase "Goodbye says it all" reinforces the idea that the relationship is truly over and that there is no way to undo what has been done.

Overall, the song is a reminder of the importance of honesty, communication, and trust in any relationship. When these elements are missing or broken, it can be difficult or impossible to repair the damage and move forward together.

As much as i enjoy the new country nothing will ever hold a candle to 90s country. Its very rare you hear of someone who knows this band. Glad to see fellow listeners!

90s country is the BEST

@SX-sv6vo

I have Blackhawk's Greatest Hits album and saw them in concert in the early 00s. Hard to pick a favorite song, but I think " Just About Right" is my favorite.🥰

90's country was such great music. I was working at a Ford assembly plant, on the Frame line. Building Broncos, F-150s and 250's. I used to listen to this Band every night on that line. It helped me keep going. Today's country I mostly cannot get into, not saying its not any good just not for me right now. But in the 90's I was younger, stronger and working harder and Blackhawk helped me along the way.

I'll always remember these guys and the song. In 1994, my daughter (5 years old at the time) and I went to Nashville for Fan Fair. As we were walking through the building after having them sign autographs for us earlier, they remembered her and without hesitation started singing this song acapella to her. She tried to hide behind me, to no avail. They sounded just as good, if not better, than their recording of the song. They thanked me for allowing them to sing her this song; I thanked them for remembering her and that they gave us a memory I'll never forget. Thanks, Blackhawk... still remembering 26 years later.
